Muppets to Return with a Special Series in Disney+ this July

Muppets are coming back and how! Your favourite muppets are soon returning to your daily entertainment with a new flavour.

With rotating guest stars, world-class production facilities, and pure unscripted mayhem, Muppets Now is ready to break new ground in the world of streaming.

In an announcer video, Disney+ released what was a mock video call with our most beloved Muppets of all. The video features Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and more of the beloved characters talking about the new series.

Announcing the return of the Muppets, Disney stated in a press release:

“In preparation for the world premiere of the Muppets’ first-ever streaming show, Muppets Now, Kermit the Frog will conduct a video chat to break the news that Disney+ has ordered six half-hour muppisodes premiering July 31.”

The six-episode season will premiere on Disney’s OTT platform Disney+ on July 31.

Muppets Now has been directed by Kirk Thatcher and the series is an improvised situation comedy based on The Muppets franchise. 

For those not in the know, the original Muppets were created by Jim Henson in the 1970s that ran for five seasons. These memorable characters have remained a part of the internet’s memory through some legendary memes.

Jim Henson’s Muppets, including Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, would come together in a weekly variety show with a range of famous guests.

Keeping with the TV variety show format, each episode showcased a celebrity guest star or duo, who were the only humans to appear on the show. Along for the ride are Gonzo, Fozzie the bear and Scooter — who is the closest thing to a human puppet the series had.

This season’s celebrity guests will include entertainers, comedians, chefs, and many others. Fans will also be in for a treat with the all-new comedy segments from their favorite Muppets. The likes of which will include Miss Piggy, Beaker, Camilla, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo the Great, Kermit the Frog, Pepe the King Prawn, The Swedish Chef, Scooter, Uncle Deadly, among others.
