Attack on Titan Director and Wit Studio to Work Together on ‘Moonrise’ Anime

Netflix’s Geeked Week live stream came as a blessing for all otakus worldwide with so many thrilling anime announcements. But the one that stole the show was the director’s reveal for Wit Studio’s Moonrise anime.

Moonrise is an upcoming sci-fi anime set in outer space. Instead of showing how cool and awesome space is, the anime will depict the various dangers of what lies beyond the planet we live on.

Since it is an anime portraying dangers that are bigger than human beings and beyond their control, there’s no one better to direct it than someone involved with Attack on Titan.

Netflix Geeked Week’s live stream has revealed that Masashi Koizuka will direct Tow Ubukata and Wit Studio’s upcoming sci-fi anime Moonrise.

Koizuka has previously directed Attack on Titan’s seasons 2 and 3 and will be teaming up with Wit Studio again for Moonrise.

The franchise has also revealed a mesmerizing key visual for the announcement. It features a post-apocalyptic setting with a man standing on the ruins, gazing at the moon as the land beyond him burns.

Wit Studio says the story will take place on Earth and the Moon. It will follow two protagonists, Jack and Al, who find their way through the various hardships of outer space.

Knowing Koizuka’s previous work in AOT’s seasons 2 and 3, I guess Moonrise will have a similar perspective of humans. We’re talking about outer space here, the unknown as many call it, so it’s obvious that we’ll witness some chaotic mass destruction here.

I do hope that it’s not all similar to AOT because I won’t be able to handle such trauma again, but looking at how the anime’s coming along, we should prepare our tissue boxes in advance.

Keeping that aside, the anime looks promising, and I hope Netflix doesn’t ruin it.
