Huge, grotesque beasts have been terrorizing Japan for many years. In Kaiju No. 8 these monsters are called Kaiju, and to defeat these monsters and protect the everyday life of civilians, the Defense Corps risks their lives battling with them.
While going through his daily unexciting and tiring life, our protagonist, Kafka Hibino, is met with an unexpected situation that could either help or destroy his dreams.
Now joining the Defense Force, Kafka must fight to protect Japan while keeping his Kaiju side a secret from his colleagues.
After a chain of leaks, on the 4th of August 2022, TOHO Animation confirmed Kaiju No. 8 will be adapted into anime.
Release Date
TOHO Animation announced on the 4th of August 2022 that Kaiju No. 8 was in the production stage for its anime adaptation. As of the moment, no staff members or release dates have been confirmed.
Assuming the anime adaptation is still in its pre-production stage, we can expect the anime to be released by late 2023 or early 2024.

Plot
The story for Kaiju No. 8 is set in Japan, where most of the monster attacks happen. The Japan Defense Force is tasked with neutralizing the Kaiju. Once a monster is killed the Kaijuu Cleaner Corporation cleans up and disposes of all the remains.
Two friends, Mina and Kafka, made a pact when they were kids to join the Japan Defense Force together. Desperate to keep the pact with his friend, Kafka, a now 30-year-old Kaiju cleaner keeps trying to enter the Defense Force to fight with Mina, who is a Third Division Captain.
One day, while cleaning up the remains of a Kaiju, a parasite-type Kaiju forced its way inside Kafka’s body, turning him into a humanoid monster.
Will the kaiju-hunting-obsessed Kafka be hunted by his colleagues or will he achieve his dream of fighting with his childhood friend?

Kaiju No. 8 or Monster #8 is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. It has been serialized for free on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ from July 2020.
In Japan, creatures are known as kaiju frequently attack the nation with the Japanese Defense Force in charge of dealing with and killing them.
Childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro vow to become members of the Defense Force after a kaiju destroys their home. Mina becomes a famous commander of the Force while Kafka fails the exam multiple times and becomes a monster sweeper, those in charge of cleaning up a monster’s dead body.
One day a small talking kaiju enters his body through his mouth and he can now turn into a Kaiju himself. This is dubbed “Kaiju No. 8” by the Defense Force.
