I’m sure you’ve heard about teenagers going to another world, but now get ready for an Uncle From Another World suffering from a nasty isekai hangover.
This anime will rid you of the isekai overload and give you a solid reason not to have fantasies about getting transported to another realm. If anything, this reverse isekai will motivate you to be wary of truck-kun for life.
Uncle From Another World (Isekai Ojisan) is pretty much what the title says. It tells the story of Takafumi’s isekai-d uncle, who’s been comatose for seventeen years and wakes up to find himself back in the real world.
The anime will premiere on July 6, and Netflix has revealed a promotional video for the same.
The video starts with Uncle telling Takafumi about his love for video games and showing his nephew the magic he gained while living in the parallel world. Uncle’s spell summons a magical screen that recounts all his memories from the universe he was transported to.
As expected, Takafumi’s uncle is oblivious to the ways of the real world and often gets himself in trouble. As Takafumi explains to him about everything he’s missed out on, Uncle can’t get rid of the habits he picked up from the other world.
Netflix has announced that it will stream the anime globally in multiple languages and has released an English-subtitled teaser for it.
The teaser shows us a backstory of how Uncle woke up from his coma and Takafumi’s horrible realization about his uncle’s situation. Uncle tells Takafumi that instead of being a hero, he was bullied by the other good-looking characters.
However, Takafumi soon notices how his uncle left behind the one person who cared about him because she was a tsundere and the concept became popular four years after he went into the coma.
The franchise has also revealed a key visual featuring Uncle with characters from both the real and the parallel worlds.

Isekai Ojisan is a manga series by Hotondo Shindeiru. It has been serialized in ComicWalker since 29th June 2018. An anime adaptation by AtelierPontdarc premiered in July 2022.
