If Miharu was truly worried about him murdering her, she would’ve attempted the formal accusation against him and not been killed, and if she still was killed the murderer would search the apartment after.

There was no evidence that the apartment was ransacked; thus, it wouldn’t make any sense for him to be the killer. Since he was unable to talk about Yuki-Onna, it just made the police a bit more suspicious, but the same matter proves his innocence.

The actual murderer knew everything about them both and merely tried to set Muroi up for whatever personal reason. At that moment, he gets the call from the one person who could’ve murdered her.

Nagisa’s call goes ignored as he begins explaining who she is, a former colleague who maintained contact with him even when her company went under. The exact motive for the murder, however, is something even Kotoko can’t figure out.

Yuki-Onna consoles him as he feels a bit confused about it. Kotoko also explains her process of investigation as well as how she found police classified information with the help of some ghosts.

She also approves of their relationship and warns them to use contraceptives since she doesn’t want to deal with a child between a yokai and a human. Kuro accidentally drops into the conversation, and Yuki-Onna is immediately terrified.

They fly away as they talk about the behind-the-scenes of the investigation and all the minute details she thought of during the entire conversation. She has also understood the motive, respecting Muroi too much and being frustrated he was cheated on.

Using Muroi as bait, she could lure Miharu to the riverbed and murder her with no witnesses. She wanted Muroi to feel all alone and eventually rely on her and fall in love with her.
