Final Arc Adaptation for ‘Golden Kamuy’ Officially In the Works

‘Golden Kamuy’ has been one of the most unique stories out there in the shonen/ seinen genre. Its inspiration from history and popular historical figures, combined with the setting in a war-torn world and the indigenous culture, makes it worth watching.

The fourth season just concluded this Monday, but loyal fans have been worried about its continuation. That is understandable, as the season was put on hold after airing nearly halfway through 2022 and resumed this year with the remaining episodes.

On Monday, the official website for the ‘Golden Kamuy’ anime announced that the final arc (a.k.a. Hakodate Arc) will also get adapted. The announcement was made right after the season finale, and a visual of Tokushirou Tsurumi was also revealed.

The fourth season originally began in October 2022 and aired six episodes before it was delayed. The delay was because of the passing of a main staff member. The staff did not reveal the name but mentioned that the member was ‘indispensable’, so the production was delayed after discussion.

‘Golden Kamuy’ Season 4 resumed its broadcast on April 3 with the first episode. Unlike its previous seasons that ran for 12 episodes, it ran for 13 episodes, covering the following story arcs:

  • Return to Karafuto Arc
  • Return to Hokkaido Arc
  • Bear Man Arc
  • Boutarou the Pirate Arc
  • Town of Reunions Arc (Initial Chapters)

While the series is known to be underrated by many, ‘Golden Kamuy’ is also known for omitting several manga chapters. This is why the announcement of a final arc was not as surprising. I would have loved to watch it getting completely adapted, but for now, I am glad that the anime is not abruptly ending with season 4.
