The Goblin Slayer anime is adapted from the light novel by the same name written by Kumo Kagyu. There is a manga too, adapted from the light novel written by Kosuke Kurose, but the anime doesn’t follow that.
There are currently 12 light novel volumes released in Japan as of February 2020, of which the anime adapted 5.
The first season of Goblin Slayer premiered from October to December 2018. Goblin Slayer: Goblin’s Crown is a movie of the franchise which was released in February 2020.

The release date of the next season may get delayed due to the pandemic, which has currently halted the voice overs and the production of the anime. We will update this article when there is more information.
2. Theory Section
Why should we look forward to this anime? Let’s look into the technical details such as the animation, the studio, and its popularity to check what influences the production of ‘Goblin Slayer Season 2’.
I. About the Studio
White Fox studio is the brain for the anime adaptation of Goblin Slayer. It has worked on other projects such as Steins;Gate, Re:Zero, Arifureta, and more.
Takaharu Ozaki directed Goblin Slayer along with Phi Brain, Re:Zero, Persona 5, and more.
II. Financial Statistics
The light novel ranked fifth in 2017, while the manga’s first volume reached 39th place on the weekly Oricon manga rankings. It sold about 20,360 copies in the first week alone.
III. Animation Quality
White Fox has handled the animation for Goblin Slayer and has done a wonderful job. Being a dark fantasy, the scenes are filled with gore, blood and dark animations, definitely not for the light hearted.
There are fierce battle scenes with fluid motions together with flying arrows, good sword swings, and decapitations. They go hand in hand with the dark caves, dimly-lit caverns creating the sombre ambience of the anime.
IV. Was Season 1 Any Good?
The very first episode of Goblin Slayer left most of the viewers with mixed feelings. Any fan of the light novels would know that the series is a dark fantasy, emphasis on dark.
We are introduced to graphic violence and rape scenes in the very first episode. Which is no doubt the biggest reason the anime gained a negative reputation when it first aired.
Although there are quite a many scenes of women being murdered and assaulted, the principal cast comprises very capable women. While it shows a contrast in the vile nature of goblins and how underestimated they are; it shines a light on the women in the Slayer’s party.
It is a series which can jump from a blood fest to a heart-warming relaxing anime between episodes. The character development of each party member and their interactions with the protagonist really shocks the audience.
The anime is not everyone’s cup of tea, but fans love to watch the hero encounter goblins and establish his status as a ‘Goblin Killer’.
Many fans theorize what will happen next and are waiting eagerly for a sequel to quench their curiosity.
3. New Key Visuals
No new key visuals for season two of Goblin Slayer have been released yet. We can expect the season to continue right after season 1 from Volume 6 of the light novel.
Even though the production of a season 2 has been announced, there are no trailers or teasers for the Goblin Slayer part 2 yet. We will update this article as soon as they are released.
The series starts with a teenage Priestess joining her local guild and setting out for her first quest. The quest involves taking down goblins which may sound easy, but really wasn’t for the rookie adventurers.
The goblins turned out to have brains, which they use to quickly capture, rape, and kill the other members of Priestess’s party before the goblins turned on her. A man known as the Goblin Slayer saves her from her turmoil and the Priestess chooses to follow him and joins his party.
The rest of the story really boils down to how the Slayer plans and kills the goblins amidst various adventures and that’s it! Based on the adventures, he only selects goblin quests to satisfy his anger. The strategic planning, ability to foresee goblin plans, countermeasures are the crux of the anime.
Now other than the violence, there are many episodes which create a slice-of-life moments such as the Slayer cleaning his equipment, shopping, and farming etc. It provides characterization to the party members and humanizes them.
The season ends with a cliff-hanger about the Slayer’s vow to eliminate all goblins and the audience is left with more suspense.
6. Expected Storyline
Goblin Slayer has been adapted from the light novel, and therefore we know that it will most probably continue from where it left: Volume 6.
The series ended with the knowledge that the Gods have taken interest in the Goblin Slayer. His fate now rests on his vow to kill all the goblins.
We can expect that season 2 will tell us the origin of the Slayer, his new missions and dealings with evil. We may get answers to all the questions we had in season 1.
7. Cast & Staff
There might not be any change in the cast and staff for the second season:
|Series Composition||Hideyuki Kurata|
|Character Design||Takashi Nagayoshi|
|Yuichiro Umehara||Goblin Slayer|
|Nao Toyama||High Elf Archer|
