Update 1.02.2 for Elden Ring Adds Fixes to PC and PS5 Problems

Elden Ring has launched to overwhelming praise and has expanded the Soulsborne community with many more players, thanks to its accessibility. Unfortunately, as is the case with many new releases, the players felt that a host of technical difficulties spoilt what could have been a fantastic experience.

Even with the impressive processor power of next-gen consoles like the PS5, Elden Ring has had a troubled launch, and Bandai Namco has been busy trying to fix the mistakes. The most recent patch notes for version 1.02.2 were released across all platforms.

The notes stated that many errors were fixed, such as bugs that would cause game crashes, pop-in textures that required extra time loading in after fast travel, and network connection status failures. The PS5 and PC versions of the game got patch 1.02.1, but a new patch dropped yesterday to fix even more errors.

The notes state that patch 1.02.2 fixes a significant bug where “the graphics card was not being used, resulting in slow performance.” This would explain the many graphical and performance issues Elden Ring players were reporting. The patch also fixes “a bug that caused the game to quit under certain conditions during a battle with the Fire Giant.” Players have said bugs like these keep popping up when encountering new enemies, so this won’t be the last foe to be patched.

The notable fix added to the PS5 patch notes is the fix made to “save game progression” being altered, “even when the game is not terminated.” This addresses the issue PlayStation 5 users were facing with the auto-save feature. Shutting down the system would not always guarantee your progress was saved. The workaround for this so far has been to quit the game using the main menu, but hopefully, players can now quit without worrying.

We’re hopeful that patch 1.02.1 will have fixed many of the most annoying bugs in Elden Ring‘s performance. We’ll only know for sure once more players have gotten their hands on the update and reported on the state of the game.
