In episode 68 of Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai, titled “The Last Challenge,” Popp can finally make his Insignia glow, thanks to Merle’s sacrifice. The five disciples can finally complete the spell and go to the Dark King’s palace.
As they head towards the king, they are interrupted by Haldar and the royal guards. Haldar takes on Dai while separating the five from each other. Sigma is fighting Popp, and Hym fights Hyunckel.
The second half of the episode focuses entirely on the fight between Dai and Haldar, as this is Haldar’s last battle. Since his body is slowly decaying and cannot heal anymore, he wants to fight his rival one last time.
Dai accepts the challenge and decides to honor him by fighting him one last time.

Episode 69 Speculations
The next episode will showcase the power of love as Maam fights Queen Albinass. Maam tried to convince Albinass not to recklessly lay her life just for Haldar to have a duel with Dai.
Albinass refuses to listen to Maam for the sake of her Lord Haldar. She attacks Maam without delay and removes everyone apart from Popp and Hyunckel. The next episode will show us whether Maam can convince her or not.
The way things look, it is most probable that Albinass will sacrifice herself for Lord Haldar with Maam failing to convince her to side with them.

Episode 68 Recap
Merle’s sacrifice makes Popp unleash his powers. His Insignia finally glows, shining with the color of courage.
He starts to heal her despite being a mage. Everyone is shocked by his healing powers, which resemble a Sage. He makes the poison in Merle disappear, and her heart starts to beat again.
Seeing his power, Leona claims that Popp’s healing energy is stronger than her Zing-spell, which could be Kazing-level.
The five disciples then continue with the Kaglimmer spell. They complete the Kaglimmer and then go straight to King Vearn’s palace, with the Zoom spell of Popp.
While on their way to King Vearn, they are stopped by Haldar. He immediately separates everyone leaving only Dia with him. Popp is sent to some other place with Sigma. Sigma challenge Popp to fight him, to which he readily agrees.
On the other hand, Hyunckel meets Hym as Hym is ready to fight him again. Maam faces Queen Albinass, the strongest of the Royal Guards.
Albinass tells Maam that she was there to eliminate the ones left after Popp and Hyunckel, but one of them escaped leaving only Maam with her.
Leona is later revealed to be left there. The evil spell of Haldar doesn’t work on her, thanks to Gome-chan popping out at the right time. She tells Haldar not to fight as fighting Dai here would be useless, as it will be helping King Vearn.
He refuses to listen to her as this will be his final fight. Dai then realizes that Haldar is nearing his death as his wounds are not healing anymore.
So, to honor his last wish of fighting the Hero, he agrees to fight him. Seeing Dai’s resolve, Leona remarks how much he has grown.
Haldar isn’t on Vearn’s side neither can he side with Dai, so as his last wish, he chooses to fight Dai in his previous battle. Albinass is determined to make his wish come true, so she decides to remove every obstacle in his way.
Listening to all this, Maam refuses to fight Albinass and tries to convince her not to go to such lengths. Maam offers to help her and Haldar in any way they can, so she should stop with this pointless pursuit.
The queen refuses to hear her pleading and attacks her without any delay.

The story features Dai, a boy living in the Dermline Islands and his quest of becoming a hero and realizing his powers and helping Princess Leona along the way.
The games were adapted into two major television series. Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai is the remake of the 1991 series which had 46 episodes in total.
