Mob Psycho 100: Does Mob get a girlfriend? Who does he end up with?

Sure, Mob Psycho 100 is about espers and spirits and Mob going psycho when his explosion scale hits 100%. But it’s also about love in all its shapes and forms, whether platonic or romantic.

Mob dreams of getting with his crush like any other middle schooler. The fact that he’s one of the most powerful espers in the world is totally inconsequential when it comes to obtaining a girlfriend.

Everyone who watches the series knows of Mob’s devotion-bordering-on-obsession with his childhood crush, Tsubomi, but does he end up with her in the end?

Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama does not get a girlfriend or end up with Tsubomi at the end of the series. Tsubomi turns him down, but Mob’s romantic endeavors don’t go completely unrequited; the finale hints at Tsubomi and Mob ending up together in the future.

Does Mob confess his feelings to Tsubomi? How?

After accepting that ???% Mob is also a part of him, Mob realigns his emotions and embraces his true self. Plucking up his courage, he takes a single sunflower left from the bouquet he had got for Tsubomi, and meets her in the park to confess how he’s always felt about her.

Unfortunately – but inevitably – Tsubomi rejects Mob. She responds by saying that she had never thought of him in that way before. But now that Mob has accepted all of his emotions – and his powers – he can be the full version of himself before Tsubomi and allow her to really get to know him.

In the manga epilogue and season 3 finale, it’s shown that 6 months after Mob’s confession and Tsubomi’s move to a different city, Mob and Tsubomi frequently chat on the phone, implying that the two have begun bonding on a different level.

Does Tsubomi like Mob? Will Tsubomi end up with Mob?

Tsubomi truly likes Mob – but not romantically. At least, not yet. But given how their relationship matures after she leaves school, there’s a strong chance that Mob and Tsubomi will end up together sooner or later.

Tsubomi has been Mob’s friend since they were little. She was the first person after Ritsu to see Mob display his psychic powers.

In time though, Tsubomi was no longer impressed with him, and she made Mob realize that psychic powers alone do not make him special or interesting.

Tsubomi is a major impetus for many of Mob’s life decisions. How she reacts to him affects him psychologically as well as physically. When Tsubomi gets bored of Mob’s powers and pursues athletic boys, Mob suppresses his powers altogether and joins the Body Improvement Club.

Tsubomi doesn’t exactly give Mob the attention he yearns for, but she has always cared about him.

When it is revealed that Tsubomi is going to be leaving school because she has to move, every single middle schooler thinks it is their one last chance to tell the school’s most beautiful girl how they feel about her.

Tsubomi rejects every one of them, making us believe that when Mob finally gets to her, she’ll say yes to him. This, of course, never happens.

Mob phones Tsubomi and asks her if he can speak to her the next day. Tsubomi agrees, but mainly because of how heavily Mob’s voice was shaking on the phone. They agree to meet at the park they played in as kids. Mob gets a beautiful bouquet of flowers for her, but is hit by a car on his way to her.

???% Mob awakens and takes over Mob’s body, beginning his rampage throughout the city, with his one and only goal being to tell Tsubomi about how he feels for her.

In Mob’s mindscape, ???% Mob tells Mob that since Tsubomi never treated him differently because of his powers, since she was never afraid of him like everyone else, he was the one who had a crush on her.

???% Mob whips up a literal storm, and an evacuation order is given in Spice City.

This is when we realize how much Tsubomi cares for Mob.

Tsubomi refuses to leave the park despite the evacuation order and the imminent threat the psychic storm could do to her. She knows Mob would never leave her waiting, and instead of seeking shelter, sits down on a bench waiting for Mob to come to her.

I think Tsubomi somewhere knew that the storm was caused by Mob. She was one of the few people who knew what Mob could do.

This shows that Tsubomi genuinely likes Mob, though not in the way that he wants her to. But maybe in a few more years, the two might reunite for university and romantically hit it off. Fingers crossed!

Did Mob ever have a girlfriend?

The only time Mob ever had a girlfriend was when Emi, his classmate, asked him out because she lost a bet from her friends. Unaware and unsure of what was happening, Mob went along with Emi’s proposal, walking her from school for a full week.

Although she was never his real girlfriend, the fake relationship had some golden moments that impacted both, Mob and Emi.

It primed Mob how to be around and talk to girls, a much-needed experience. As for Emi, the time spent with Mob gained her a new respect for him. She saw how caring and sensitive he was – and brave too.

When Emi’s friends began teasing her about her writing and ripped up her novel, Mob stepped in to defend her and her work.  

He told the bullies off and then helped her gather the pieces of her manuscript – until the wind blew the pile away.

But Mob used his powers to retrieve all the pieces and put them back together. Emi realized who Mob really was, and even used him then onward as a muse for her next writing project.

Incidentally, Tsubomi witnessed Mob using his powers to help Emi. That is when she saw Mob and his powers in a new light.
