Does Goku Become a God of Destruction? Can Goku Surpass Beerus?

Dragon Ball is all about pushing oneself past your own limits to become more powerful than your opponents.

Goku adheres to this principle quite well by testing his limits in each battle and increasing his strength by leaps and bounds to take down his enemy effectively. On some occasions, he even cheats his own death.

Goku doesn’t become a God of Destruction, even though Sidra said his transformations can rival gods. Goku was an eligible candidate for the God of Destruction position, but he turned down the offer. Instead, he’s learning Ultra Instinct from Whis, an angel.

Why did Goku give up his candidacy? Also, can he beat strong GoDs like Beerus if he is as strong as a God of Destruction? Let’s find out.

Why Did Goku Refuse the Offer To Become a God of Destruction?

Unsurprisingly, Whis had scouted Universe 7’s Goku as a potential candidate for the position of the God of Destruction.

But Goku declined Whis’s offer to become a God of Destruction because he wanted to be stronger on his own.

Becoming the God of Destruction would have boosted his Ki and power greatly. But like any honorable martial artist, Goku wants to work hard and build his strength with his own hands. He doesn’t want everything served to him on a silver platter.

Gods of Destruction Goku Can Surpass

Since Goku has been offered the position of God of Destruction in the past, we can assume that he is as powerful as a few of them. However, he isn’t a match for powerhouses like Beerus.

The power scales of every God of Destruction differ a lot, so we need to compare Goku’s strength with every god to understand if he can surpass them.

I. Iwan

Iwan’s barely noticeable presence during the Tournament of Power arc speaks volumes about how powerful he actually is.

Any powerful being will get excited about fighting with other powerful entities, but Iwan was relieved when he heard his universe didn’t need to participate in the Tournament.

Even when he does participate, he is quickly beaten by Quitela and eliminated. It’s obvious that Goku can easily surpass him if he ever fights him.

II. Heles

Heles can be considered one of the weaker Gods of Destruction as well. Rather than fighting Goku by herself when he’s ready for a battle, she ordered her universe to gang up on an exhausted Goku after his battle with Kefla in the Tournament of Power arc.

This means that she’s not powerful enough to take him on by herself.

III. Arak

Arak’s existence was overshadowed by other stronger Gods of Destruction as well, just like Iwan.

Based on his performance during the Tournament arc, we can conclude that he doesn’t think ahead before striking. His sparring match with Iwan and Liquiir damages the battlegrounds, leaving him no choice but to give up the battle and fix the mess he caused.

His lack of insight wastes away any potential he has to offer, which makes him a weak foe that can be easily beaten.

IV. Liquiir

Liquiir’s performance during the Tournament of Power wasn’t stellar, and he didn’t live up to his God of Destruction title. Several gods easily overpowered him, and he almost died at the hands of Heleus after she used her arrow to shoot him.

Liquiir won’t be a formidable opponent for Goku, since his power is barely on par with other weak gods.

V. Sidra

If we try to calculate Sidra’s power level, we can estimate that it’s at least around Golden Frieza’s level. Frieza easily destroyed Sidra’s Destruction Sphere, and his universe, Universe 9, was one of the first universes to get erased in Tournament of Power.

Suffice it to say, Goku’s power easily surpasses Sidra’s strength.

VI. Rumsshi

Gods of Destruction can be killed, and Rumsshi is one of those few gods who experienced that bitter death. Rumsshi died when Gowasu was killed by Zamasu during Future Trunks Saga.

Goku had almost killed Zamasu with his Hakai in Dragon Ball Super, so he can beat Rumsshi, who’s definitely weaker than Zamasu.

VII. Belmod

Belmod was one of the top 4 GoDs in the Tournament of Power arc, which makes him a powerhouse among all the other gods. However, the only thing Belmod lacks is experience.

He is a new GoD, and he is weaker than Jiren. Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku is equal in terms of power with Full Power Jiren.

He is powerful in his own right, but mortal freaks like Jiren and Goku make him seem like a literal joke, ironically.

VIII. Giin

Just like Iwan, Giin is visibly relieved when the Grand Minister announces that his universe is one of the twelve universes that doesn’t need to participate in the Tournament of Power.

This reaction clearly shows that he knows that he isn’t as powerful as the other Gods of Destruction, which barely makes him a worthy opponent for Goku.

Gods of Destruction Goku Can’t Surpass

I. Mule

Mule doesn’t fight alone, unlike other Gods of Destruction. Instead, he uses a robot called Mosco to harness his power.

But that doesn’t mean he’s not powerful without his robot. I believe that Mule can beat Goku in a one-on-one fight. He managed to capture the mighty Beerus for some time through a surprise attack, so he can easily overwhelm the Saiyan fighter if he wants to.

II. Champa

Champa would be as strong as Beerus, but low stamina is his Achilles Heel. However, the difference between the strength of Beerus and Champa is negligible. Goku will need to train really hard for a long time to actually beat Champa.

III. Quitela

If you think Champa is the second most powerful God of Destruction, you are dead wrong. The second spot was snatched by Quitela during the Tournament of Power arc.

Besides Beerus, Quitela was the only god who was left in the tournament. He didn’t manage to beat Beerus obviously, but he had beaten Beerus in arm wrestling before the tournament, which clearly showcases how powerful he is.

IV. Beerus

Gods of Destruction are regarded as the strongest deities in the Dragon Ball universe, so you can easily imagine how powerful Beerus must be if he’s considered the strongest among all Gods of Destruction.

Even though Goku was trained by Whis who’s technically stronger than Beerus, Beerus broke no sweat and easily defeated Goku every time. He can destroy planets without lifting a finger, and I believe the only beings stronger than him are Angels.

Defeating Beerus is nearly an impossible feat for Goku, unless he decides to become a God of Destruction as well.
