Developers bring back 16 maps to Call of Duty Modern Warfare III

Call of Duty’s upcoming title Modern Warfare III was recently announced, slated for release on November 10th. Many changes are being brought to the game, including borrowing heavily from previous titles.

Developers Sledgehammer Games and publishers Activision have released the official gameplay trailer for Call of Duty Modern Warfare III. It shows Task Force 141 in all its glory. After its global launch, all the iconic 16 maps meant that 6v6 gameplay from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 will be present in Modern Warfare III.

Developers have confirmed that the 16 iconic maps include Rust, Scrapyard, Sub-Base, Terminal, Rundown, Skidrow, Afghan, Underpass, Wasteland, Derail, Estate, Highrise, Invasion, Karachi, Quarry, and Favela. There will be 3 “Large-scale Battle Maps” and 1 “Colossal War Map.”

The maps have been modernized in terms of geography. However, according to the developers, the authenticity and the original feel of the maps from 2009’s MW2 have been kept intact.

Gameplay evolutions in Modern Warfare III include tactical stance, which trades off some precision and accuracy for improved mobility and handling on the go. Loadouts can be built with military equipment such as gloves, vests, boots, and more. After-Market Parts lead to new customization, progression, and challenges.

The multiplayer features are the most exciting of the lot. Sledgehammer Games bring back Map Voting in Modern Warfare III. The classic mini map with red dots for unsuppressed weapons also makes a comeback.

Special abilities, known as perks, will be available at the start of each map. An exciting introduction, “Covert Sneakers Perk,” allows for silent movement. Core health has also been increased to 150 for an increased TTK.

Movement updates are what most fans are looking forward to with the return of the ability to cancel the slide during the tactical sprint. The developers have clarified that canceling will only compensate for the slide animation but not reset the tactical sprint.

Cancelling reload animations has also been updated to return fire with leftover ammo. Mantling is faster now and can be done while sprinting. Tactical sprint durations have also been improved and now recharges while sprinting.

The developers also confirmed a PvE Dark Aether Zombies story set in the Modern Warfare universe where players can team up with other squads against massive hordes of zombies. The only objective is to survive the surges and reach the exfil point.

With a mix of new and old features and maps making a comeback, the reaction from the dedicated Call of Duty fanbase is mixed. Many fans are calling out Activision and Sledgehammer Games for making remasters and milking the nostalgia factor.

Some OG fans are excited about the return of fan-favorite maps like Rust. For them, the release date of November 10th for Call of Duty Modern Warfare III could not come any sooner.
