Demon Slayer Outsells One Piece

Demon Slayer has been a fan favourite anime since its launch in April 2019. With heart-throbbing action and fantastic animation, this series has earned its place amongst the top anime of 2019 and has been attracting readers to its original manga. Recently, there has been a sharp increase in the sales of the original manga in Japan with weekly sales records approaching those of One Piece, the best selling manga for the past decade. The sales numbers have been increasing every week and have finally hit a major milestone.

@KnYSource tweeted out statistics of Manga Sales (2019) in Japan and looks like Demon Slayer is the best selling series of 2019 with 200,000 more copies sold than One Piece. As impressive as this development is, it is still far from claiming One Piece’s records as a king.

Breaking down the statistics, Demon Slayer is currently outselling One Piece; however, no single volume of the series has come close to the sales of the latest One Piece volume in Japan. With over 1.7 million copies sold of Volume 94 in the first three weeks of October, the series is beginning to climb higher up the ladder. These numbers are originating mainly from Japanese Fans wanting to continue the story from where the anime’s season one left off. Many fans have been buying multiple volumes of the series, which has increased overall sales as well.

With the end of 2019 almost here and the series cementing such a major achievement, the producers can make time to celebrate the series’ success. Kanpai!!
