The anime was released on October 10, and it starts with an anime original episode. Episode one recounts everything that happened before Tanjiro and co. met Rengoku on the Mugen train.

Before the Flame Hashira had boarded the train, he had already fought a demon called the Slasher who was spreading terror in the surrounding areas.

Rengoku discovered the demon and slashed through him, saving a bento seller granny, and her granddaughter. The lady recalled how she had been saved 20 years ago by a similar-looking person and Rengoku confirms that the person was his father.

While everyone else thought that the train was only haunted by the Slasher and the danger is now over, the Flame Hashira was the only one to realize that the real demon is still alive. A demon who has killed over 40 people will be even stronger.

We also get a glimpse at Rengoku’s father who we will meet in the next cour. The anime special thus smoothly joins the Mugen Train arc with the upcoming cour. Even the bento boxes now have a backstory of their own.

Nevertheless, I am glad to see that Inosuke is still as embarrassing as ever. Episode two will dive right into the heart of the matter as our protagonists will face the actual threat on the train.

Once again, don’t miss out on this series because the animation quality alone can bowl you over. (Also, because I don’t want to be the only one left crying at the end of it) If even a small fry demon can bring out this kind of animation, then I can’t wait to experience the all-out action scenes.
