Hollywood has been facing a major crisis as two of its biggest unions, the Writer’s Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA, have been on strike since May and July 2023, respectively.

The writers and actors are demanding more fair compensation, job security, and residuals in the age of artificial intelligence and streaming services. This has resulted in many popular projects being postponed or canceled, such as A League of Their Own season 2 and MCU’s Blade reboot.

One of the movies that tried to avoid the strike’s impact was Deadpool 3, which started shooting before SAG-AFTRA joined the walkout. However, Ryan Reynolds was not allowed to initially change or improvise any set lines, which wasn’t acceptable in the final cut. Marvel Studios hoped to fix these issues with reshoots later on, but that plan may not work out if the strike continues.

Even amid the problems, Levy shared that they had filmed half of the movie before the strike and assured fans that it would still be “very much R-rated” to keep the excitement alive among the fans.

Recent news suggests that the writers’ union has started talks with the producers and is making more progress than before. However, without any update on these negotiations, it’s still uncertain when the movie will resume shooting.
