The Flash Streaming Debut Announced After Disastrous Theatrical Run

The streaming release date of The Flash, one of the last films in the DC Extended Universe, has been revealed as August 25. The film will be streaming on Max. The film delivered a disappointing theatrical performance that cost Warner Bros. more than $200 million.

The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as the titular hero, follows his attempt to alter the past by saving his mother from a fatal attack, which leads to unforeseen changes in the present. He finds himself in a different timeline where he meets another version of himself without superpowers and faces a new Batman, played by Michael Keaton instead of Ben Affleck.

The official Max account has announced the streaming release date of The Flash, which arrived in theaters less than two months ago.

The Flash, the latest film in the DC franchise, will be available for streaming on WarnerMedia’s new platform on August 25, two months and nine days after its theatrical debut. The film, which follows the adventures of the speedster hero, was released digitally on July 15 and will be out on 4K Ultra-HD, Blu-ray and DVD on August 29.

The Flash faced several challenges in its box office performance, including the legal troubles of its star Miller, who was involved in various scandals after the film’s production. The film’s connection to the DC Universe, which was rebooted by Gunn, was also unclear.

Gunn and Safran, the co-CEO of DC Studios, stated that The Flash was part of their vision for the franchise, along with the upcoming Aquaman sequel and the debut of Blue Beetle, the first official character in the new universe.

The Flash did not meet expectations at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, earning only $268.5 million worldwide against its $220 million production cost. A recent report estimated that the film would cause a $200 million loss for WB, jeopardizing the chances of Miller reprising his role as Barry Allen in the DCU led by Gunn.

The film also failed to reach the benchmark of The Batman, which grossed $770 million globally and had a sequel script written by Johnson McGoldrick.

Miller’s future in the DCU under Gunn’s direction may depend on the streaming performance of The Flash, which will be available on Max on August 25. The film will face competition from Blue Beetle, another DC movie that will debut on the streaming platform a week earlier.

The Flash, which altered the timeline for the DCU reboot, left some unresolved issues, such as the identity of the killer of Barry’s mother and the reason for Batman’s change of actor. These questions may remain unanswered for the fans.
