Remember the manga Kasane? The one where a girl can change her appearance by switching faces with another person using red lipstick? Indeed. While the creator Daruma Matsuura did a few more literary projects later, she is about to go for another one.
On Saturday, Matsuura revealed on Yomiuri TV’s Kawashima Yamauchi no Manga Numa program that she is working on a new project. This project is related to kaiju (monsters). However, she did not disclose the format.
Furthermore, she spoke about her current ongoing manga Taiyo to Tsuki no Hagane (The Steel of Sun and Moon). She said that it is ‘about 30% done’.
Taiyo to Tsuki no Hagane began its serialization in Shogakukan’s Big Comic Superior magazine in June 2020. It is a historical fiction spread across the Tenpō era (1830-1844) to the Tokugawa Shogunate period (1853-1867), and beyond.
Its story is about Kōnosuke Ryūdo, a samurai who cannot rise above the ranks because of his ability to bend metal when touched. A beautiful woman enters his life, but her identity is unknown. The manga shows the journey of the two characters.
Matsuura’s debut work Kasane was launched in April 2013 and was nominated for the Kodansha Manga Awards and Manga Taisho Award in 2015. It was concluded in September 2018. The manga also inspired a live-action film in 2018.
The stories written by Matsuura are unique and have a depth to them. Although we don’t know much about her kaiju project, it would most likely be a manga or an original anime with her script and art.
About Kasane
Kasane is a dark fantasy seinen manga series by Daruma Matsuura. It is Matsuura’s debut work. The manga was serialized in April 2013 in Kodansha’s Evening magazine and ended in 2018. Its chapters have been collected into 14 volumes. The manga also inspired a live-action film in 2018.
The story is about a girl Kasane Fuchi, who was bullied for her ugly appearance but had a talent for acting. Her mother gave her a magical red lipstick before passing away. The lipstick allows Kasane to exchange faces with anyone she kisses.
