Blade Runner, the cult classic film, is up for renewal as the upcoming animated series, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, is gearing up for release.
The best part about it? A badass female protagonist who will not flinch away from hunting down the bad folks.
Of course, where there is a buzz, there is Crunchyroll. Thus, the Blade Runner: Black Lotus series will be a Crunchyroll and Adult Swim Original and will be premiered by both later this year
Shinichiro Watanabe is the creative director, while Crunchyroll will stream the series worldwide in Japanese with English subtitles. Adult Swim will stream the English language version.
A new key visual was released for Black Lotus and it highlights all the main characters:
A katana-wielding protagonist in a future overrun by replicants will be a must-watch! Directors Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama are passionate about the series, and I can’t wait to see how the human story is created to focus on replicants.
How can we forget about the opening theme of the anime that is performed by none other than Alessia Cara? The GRAMMY award-winning singer has brought the theme to life with her amazing vocals.

Both the visual and the OP prove that this will be a CGI extravaganza. The song has glimpses of the animation technique and the scenes are just the right amount of edgy for me.
The directors talked about finding the perfect balance between animation and photorealism and the glimpses at the series do prove their point.
This time, the protagonist of the series is a young woman who wakes up with no memories. Soon, she realizes she possesses deadly skills and a black lotus tattoo. Armed with the bare minimum info, she sets out to avenge her bloody past.
Crunchyroll Originals are getting better each day, and Black Lotus looks like it will be a milestone for the website. Recently, the anime streaming site also announced a collaboration with Zoe Saldana’s studio for an epic space opera, after the site announced surpassing five million subscribers.

About Blade Runner: Black Lotus
Blade Runner: Black Lotus is an upcoming anime television series based on the Blade Runner franchise that is set to premiere in late 2021.
It is a co-production between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, in addition to being created in partnership with Alcon Television Group.
Black Lotus will take place in 2032, in the aftermath of the Black Out, and will be centered on a female replicant protagonist. It will also include “familiar” characters from the Blade Runner universe.
