Chainsaw Man, AOT, and MHA Make it to New York Times Bestseller List

When everyone was bored out of their minds last year, manga and anime came to their rescue. The pandemic was brutal, but it enabled the global recognition and popularity of the manga industry.

It became so widespread that the weeb community has been growing exponentially. Manga and anime have become popular to the extent that they’re breaking global records and competing with western media.

Furthermore, this fame has continued till 2021, to the point where different manga are being listed in the New York Times’ monthly bestseller list. Names like My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man, and Attack on Titan are the most common ones of them all.

Like every month, New York Times released the bestseller ranking for August as well. Here are the manga titles that made it to the Graphic Books and Manga category:

MangaAuthorRanking
Chainsaw Man, Volume 1Tatsuki Fujimoto#2
My Hero Academia, Volume 28Kōhei Horikoshi#8
Attack on Titan, Volume 1Hajime Isayama#14

These titles are top-rated among fans worldwide. Attack on Titan continues to remain at the top rank even after its conclusion this April.

Last month, Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer and Gege Akutumi’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga were a part of the Top 10 of the NYT bestsellers.

It’s funny that no matter how much these stories have made us cry or killed off our favorites, we continue to look forward to their next chapter.

Deku going berserk, the introduction of the third-years at Jujutsu High, and much more is just the tip of the iceberg at the moment. There is so much more to come, and I can’t wait for it.

We couldn’t be happier about the art of manga finally getting the recognition it deserves. I hope more underrated and unknown series come out because of this.
