Toaru Majutsu no Index has ranked in the top ten of Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!’s best light novel category eight times since 2011. This year again it was at 9th spot. Moreover, the light novel series has sold over 31 million copies.
Kazuma Kamachi on Twitter revealed on Monday that a new Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index) light novel series will launch in February 2020, titled Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Magical Index: Genesis Testament). Kamachi and illustrator Kiyotaka Haimura will continue to work on the story.

The action fantasy series will offer Souyaku Toaru Majutsu no Index as the third instalment. The original novel, Toaru Majutsu no Index, was released on April 2004 under Dengeki Bunko. Kamachi began working on the sequel: Shinyaku Toaru Majutusu no Index (A Certain Magical Index: New Testament) in March 2011 and it ended with its 23 volumes on July 10 this year.
J.C.Staff produced three anime seasons in Fall 2008, Fall 2010, and Fall 2018, covering the first novel series completely. During that time, an anime film written by Kamachi titled Toaru Majutsu no Index: Endymion no Kiseki (A Certain Magical Index: The Miracle of Endymion) also premiered in 2013.
About Certain Magical Index
A Certain Magical Index is a Japanese light novel series written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Kiyotaka Haimura. It is based on Tōma Kamijō, a high school student in a scientifically advanced city where he meets a young nun named Index from the Church of England whose mind has been implanted with the Index Librorum Prohibitorum: the magical texts which the church removed from circulation. This meeting makes him explore more of the secret magical world of Science and he begins his adventure with his friends.
