Episode 8 of ‘Bucchigiri?!’ is titled “Sad News! Seriously Falling in love with Gomoku Soba!” In this episode, Matakara awaits his older brother’s release from juvie.
In anticipation of his brother’s return, Matakara makes plans with all his dear friends and even rents Arajin’s restaurant for the entire day. Matakara wakes up early to pick up Mitsukuni from prison and waits outside in the rain.
However, Matakara meets with a prison worker who has sad news instead of his dear brother. Depressed and vulnerable, Matakara goes to the only place he feels safe.

1. Episode 9 Release Date
Episode 9 of ‘Bucchigiri?!’ will be released on Saturday, March 16, 2024. It is a weekly anime, and new episodes are released every Saturday. You can watch ‘Bucchigiri?!’ anime on Crunchyroll.

‘Bucchigiri?!’ is not on a break this week. Episode 9 has not been delayed and will be released on the above-stated date.
2. Episode 9 Speculation
As a result of Ichiya’s plot and Mitsukuni’s death, Matakara is now infused with the power of Ichiya. It is still unknown whether this is a good or bad thing.
However, Matakara’s view of an Honki person is one who attains that power without supernatural help. Therefore, Matakara will likely reject the power of Ichiya entirely. Moreover, Mitsukuni had warned Matakara during childhood that the shrine’s eerie presence would creep up on vulnerable and weak hearts.
All of this points to the theory that fusing with a genie completely contrasts with becoming an Honki person. Since Ichiya could transfer from Shindo to Matakara, Matakara may find a way to remove Ichiya from his body.
3. Recap of Episode 8
Matakara thinks about his visit to the shrine with his older brother and their discussion about Honki people. Arajin sneaks up on Mahoro to eat lunch with her, but she walks away. Matakara joins Arajin after Mahoro runs and asks Arajin if they can host his brother’s welcome-back party at Arajin’s restaurant.
Matakara’s friends, as well as Ken, will be attending the welcome-back feast. While cleaning outside Minato Kai’s base, Matakara runs into Shindo getting beaten up by the NG Boys members. Shindo kneels to the ground apologizes to Matakara and talks about his attempt at becoming an Honki Person.
Shindo tells Matakara that he knows how Arajin got so strong but leaves him hanging. Arajin and Matakara make gyoza together, and Matakara remembers his childhood. The day arrives and Matakara wakes up early to pick his brother.
Matakara waits in the rain outside the Juvie prison, and one of the workers runs up to him instead of Mitsukuni. The next day, Zabu tries to find Matakara as he’s gone missing. Zabu grabs Arajin the next day and says that they heard Mitsukuni got in a fight at juvie and got stabbed, resulting in his death.
Matakara cries in a secret spot in the park and feels an eerie presence collapsing on him. Later at night, Matakara visits Arajin and sits by him as he sleeps. Arajin presses the piercing on Arajin’s forehead, bringing Senya out. As Matakara runs out of Arajin’s house, Shindo approaches him and explains that Senya is the only reason Arajin is strong now.
Arajin goes to the shrine later and talks with Matakara about his visit. Matakara asks Arajin about Senya and desperately tries to convince himself that Shindo is lying. However, Arajin bursts out in sadness and anger, saying that he’s not the person Matakara thinks he is.
Arajin says he’s not trying to become an Honki person anymore and walks away, leaving Matakara crying in the shrine. Shindo approaches the vulnerable Matakara and hands him a gun. Shindo convinces Matakara to shoot the wall in the shrine, which bounces and hits him in the chest. After Matakara wakes up, Ichiya appears in front of him.

‘Bucchigiri?!’ is an original anime series produced by MAPPA and directed by Hiroko Utsumi. Mappa and Utsumi have previously worked together on ‘Banana Fish’. The anime is scheduled for release in January 2024.
