Masashi Kishimoto has taken over Boruto, and each chapter has been breathtaking. We have been reading the chapters with bated breaths. Chapter 54 of Boruto, with its continuous shocks, does not disappoint us.
Chapter 53 ended on a huge cliffhanger as Momoshiki took over Boruto’s body and stabbed Sasuke. In the latest chapter, Kawaki and Sasuke have to deal with Momoshiki as Naruto is too exhausted to stand up.
1. Momoshiki’s Plan
While battling against Kawaki and Sasuke, Momoshiki reveals that Isshiki has been completely defeated. This sentence gives us a brief sense of relief, but is quickly overridden by his next words.
He reveals that Isshiki was killed when Kawaki had turned 80% into an Otsutsuki. Thus his body can still be used to host an Otsutsuki.
Both Momoshiki and Isshiki have the same goal at the end of the day. Momoshiki wants to feed Kawaki to the Ten Tails. This will lead to the growth of a Divine Tree that will bear a new fruit.
2. Sasuke’s Quick Brainwork
Once again, Sasuke has earned our awe and respect by making us realize his analysis skills. He quickly realizes that Momoshiki is being very careful not to absorb any chakra.
Sasuke tells Kawaki that Boruto’s lack of chakra might be the trigger to Momoshiki’s possession. His theory is confirmed when Momoshiki uses a clone to avoid Sasuke’s flames.
Sasuke concludes that if Momoshiki is fed chakra by force, there is a chance of re-awakening Boruto. However, before he can make any move, Momoshiki hits him with the Vanishing Rassengan.
3. Kawaki’s Selfless Sacrifice
What Kawaki does next is absolutely selfless and reminds us about the power of friendship yet again. When Momoshiki comes at him, he sets his own body on fire.
Momoshiki is too late to realize Kawaki’s plan and absorbs some chakra. But that is enough to power up Boruto’s consciousness.
Momoshiki bids adieu for now, but it will be a constantly nagging problem. Boruto needs to be ready the next time Momoshiki tries to take over.
4. What Happened to Naruto?
Throughout the whole fight against Momoshiki, Naruto was not able to pick himself up from the ground. His fight against Isshiki had taken too much out of him.
Even Kawaki had noticed Naruto’s unconscious body mid-fight and was really worried. As soon as Boruto is back, Kawaki rushes over to Naruto, but he is out cold.
Did the fight against Isshiki cost Naruto too much? Although it is improbable for him to die here, a permanent injury is not out of the bounds. Sasuke is also gravely injured.
Only the next chapter can answer what awaits our heroes, Naruto and Sasuke.
