Star Wars’ Ahsoka Episode 4 Ending Explained

Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is no stranger to death. She’s been face-to-face with death several times and has returned from her grave solely because of the innate Jedi spirit.

However, in this week’s episode, “Fallen Jedi,” Ahsoka meets her match. A new foe has suddenly reappeared from her past and defeats her in a fierce duel. His name is Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson). Ahsoka was last pushed to the edge when she confronted Darth Vader in the Star Wars Rebels finale.

However, both times, she is saved by an entity that extends beyond the realms of space and time.

This place is called The World Between Worlds, a mystical site that connects the past and the future. The World Between Worlds looks like it floats in space, surrounded by stars and white lines that form paths to portals that can take you anywhere in time.

We first see The World Between Worlds in Star Wars Rebels when Ezra Bridger accidentally stumbles into it. Bridger eventually enters it through a mural in the wall that shows three figures: The Father, The Son, and The Daughter.

What is The World Between Worlds?

Before talking about the World Between Worlds, let’s briefly understand its origins.

In the very beginning, the Force had three living manifestations in a mysterious world called Mortis, where it controlled everything. They were The Father, The Son, and The Daughter, representing the Balance, the Dark, and the Light aspects of the Force, respectively.

However, the Father was almost on his deathbed and needed a worthy successor to keep the harmony between his children. That’s when he summoned Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied Chosen One, to test his ability to restore the balance of the Force. This started a mystical adventure for Anakin, known as the Mortis Arc in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These cosmic beings did not appear again until Season 4 of Star Wars Rebels, where they were depicted as a mural on a wall.

The mural was a gateway to The World Between Worlds, a mysterious realm beyond time and space, and Ezra Bridger was the first to be transported through the mural.

Ezra only had to touch the mural, shut his eyes, and reach out with his mind. Then, he found himself falling through the wall and into a strange place filled with stars, lines, and portals. In that mysterious world, he met Ahsoka, who had been brought there after her duel with Darth Vader – a contest that almost killed her.

Ahsoka is as bewildered as Ezra by The World Between Worlds, but she soon understands that it has given her a chance to live and change her destiny… and that’s precisely what she does!

Shouldn’t Anakin Skywalker be Dead?

Anakin Skywalker’s history is ambiguous and makes us wonder whether he should be dead or alive. However, the reality is he’s neither of the two!

In the last episode, Ahsoka is unsure if she is alive or dead after Baylan Skoll pushes her off a cliff in a fierce duel. She finds herself in The World Between Worlds, a mysterious realm of fluid time and space.

There, she is greeted by a familiar voice: her former Master, Anakin Skywalker. Anakin is not a mortal human but a Force ghost at this point.

This is the first time we see Anakin as a Force Ghost since Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, where he appeared alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. It is a historic moment for Star Wars fans to witness the reunion of the Chosen One and his Padawan, who have both gone through so much. Anakin is here to guide Ahsoka again, as he did when he was alive.

Anakin greets Ahsoka with a look of mild surprise and says, “I didn’t think you would be here so soon.”

This raises some questions: Did Ahsoka actually die from her fall from the cliff? Or does Anakin believe she is gone? Or will Ahsoka have another opportunity to change her destiny?

Ahsoka must change her destiny to keep her promise to Ezra Bridger.

When Ahsoka encountered Ezra in The World Between Worlds years ago, and they were about to return to their own times, Ezra told Ahsoka: “When you get back, come and find me.”

She answered: “I will. I promise.” Ahsoka must resurrect her Jedi spirit to navigate this mess and unlock her highest potential. Only then will she be able to save Bridger and the galaxy from Admiral Thrawn’s wrath!
