Kyoto Animation is the home to awe-inspiring anime series and movies. Yet, the infamous KyoAni Arson case had delayed several projects, one of them being 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku.
“The era changes. But love does not.” – 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku’s anime adaptation will encompass a love story that is lost with time. History records eras but not the lives of individuals who lived in the era.
Thus KyoAni is attempting to immortalize a tale that is not recorded in history.
20th Century Electricity Catalog’s anime adaptation project has just released a commercial video. It looks like the project has been resumed with renewed vigor!!
As the anime is based in the Meiji era, or the early 20th century, traditional Japanese homes and markets are shown in the PV. The protagonist, Inako Momokawa, is the girl in the kimono who meets Kihachi Sakamoto.
While Inako believes in Gods and abides by everything her family pushes her into, Kihachi is a defiant young man who rejects God. Inako sees the technological advances that Japan will soon undergo through the eyes of Kihachi.
Kyoto Animation had initially announced the anime in 2018, but we all know about the tragic arson incident that claimed several lives and became a threat to the studio’s overall existence.
The fate of 20th Seiki Denki Mokuroku had become unsure amid the case. Although the release date and other staff and cast details have not been released yet, at least we are now sure that the anime will find its way to us no matter what.
About 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku
20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku is a light novel by Hiro Yuki and Kazumi Ikeda. The novel is set to get an anime adaptation by Kyoto Animation.
The novel takes place in the summer of 1907 when traditional Japan is about to witness technological advancement.
In the heart of the Meiji era lives a girl named Inako who has faith in Gods and is pushed around by her parents. Her life changes when she meets the logical and rebelling Kihachi.
Together, they go in search of the Electricity Catalog that has the power to change the world.
