Craving some nightmare fuel? Here are Top 10 Darkest Anime Scenes Ever

From scenes that are gross and disgusting to ones that are just downright heartbreaking, anime has it all. Even the so-called “kid-friendly” shows can have moments that scar you for life.

I want to take you on a journey through the top 10 most messed up anime moments. These scenes are the kind that will leave you feeling like you need a hug or a therapist.

Filled with intense violence and disturbing sexual content to mind-bending psychological horror, they will make you shiver in your seat.

Some of these scenes might be too much to handle. So, if you’re easily triggered, it’s better if you don’t go looking for their videos. And if you do end up traumatized, it’s on you.

10. Rika’s Suicide in When They Cry

You know what’s worse than seeing someone getting murdered? Seeing them take their own life. And that’s exactly what happened to poor Rika.

Shion drove Rika to suicide in When They Cry. Rika stabbed herself multiple times, leaving blood splattered all over the walls. It was excessive, to say the least, but damn, was it horrifying to watch.

But you gotta give credit where credit is due – Tamura Yukari’s voice acting was incredible. Despite the absurd amount of blood, she really brought the scene to life with her performance.

9. Pimple Popping Scene in Junji Ito Collection

I can never look at the name “Glyceride” the same way again. Junji Ito’s stories have always had a knack for making you feel sick to your stomach, but this one takes the cake.

From the very beginning, we’re thrown into the dark and greasy world of Yui and her family. Just the thought of breathing in all that oily air makes me want to gag.

The real horror show starts when Goro decides to share his pimple juice with his sister. He squeezed his pimples over Yui’s face, but thankfully their dad took him out.

Then we find out about the meat they serve at their restaurant…ugh, it’s just too much. But I have to give it props for achieving its goal of making me want to puke.

8. Kaneki’s Brutal Torture in Tokyo Ghoul

I remember watching Tokyo Ghoul as a newbie to anime and thinking it was the coolest thing ever. But then came this scene, and it was like a punch to the gut.

Poor Kaneki just can’t catch a break! Being turned into a half-ghoul and having to deal with cannibalistic tendencies is bad enough, but then he gets captured by Yamori.

Yamori tortures Kaneki with all sorts of tools, shoves a centipede in his ear, and even kills a couple of people in front of him. He even had to count backward from 1000 to keep himself conscious.

Kaneki gets his revenge in the end by eating Yamori alive, but that doesn’t make the torture any less traumatic.

7. Barefoot Gen’s Depiction of the Hiroshima Bombing

Out of everything on this list, this is a special type of jarring as, unlike other fictional stories; these were real people, real lives lost in an instant. It is based on a true story told by a survivor of the bombing.

Barefoot Gen showed the bombing of Hiroshima, where people’s flesh got scorched, and their eyeballs melted out of their sockets. Buildings crumbled, and fires raged out of control.

It’s beyond disturbing, and the fact that it all really happened only makes it worse. It’s not easy to watch, but it reminds us that this kind of thing should never happen again.

6. Onii-chan Becomes a Meal in Pupa

Whoever suggested Pupa to me needs to seriously re-evaluate their life choices. Sure, my curiosity got the better of me, and the episodes were so short; what harm could it do, right? Wrong. So wrong.

It’s supposed to be a horror flick, but it’s more like a horrifying mess. Two siblings get infected with a virus that turns them into monsters. In order to keep his sister from turning into a monster, the brother lets her feast on his flesh.

The scene in Pupa where Yume chomps on Utsutsu’s flesh while he’s fully conscious and moaning in pain, is enough to give anyone nightmares. And the creepy incest vibes are awful.

The sister calling her brother ‘onii-chan’ repeatedly while happily munching on his flesh is enough to make my skin crawl. I hate whoever made this anime with a passion.

5. Killer Bunnies in Blood-C

I know bunnies are supposed to be adorable and fluffy, but after watching this, you’ll never look at them the same way again.

A bunch of bunnies go on a rampage and eat an entire town. And I’m not talking about cute nibbling; they store the remains of their victims inside their bodies.

The bunnies scene in Blood-C stands out from all the other horrifying anime scenes due to its graphic nature. Humans are skewered, dismembered, decapitated, and even blended!

And it all happens so fast that you won’t even have time to react. You’ll just be left with a traumatized and sick feeling in your stomach.

4. A Puppy’s Cruel Murder in Elfen Lied

This one really hit me hard; there’s something about seeing animals being harmed that makes my blood boil. It’s not just the brutal visuals that will disgust you but also the pure evilness of those little monsters.

Lucy from Elfen Lied already had it rough being discriminated against for being a Diclonius, and then her only friend, a stray dog, gets killed by bullies right in front of her.

Seeing that cute little pup get beaten to death made me want to jump through my screen and punch those kids in the face. Watching Lucy unleash her fury and slice them to pieces was both satisfying and disturbing.

3. Nina & Alexander Chimera Scene in FMAB

Shou Tucker is the most hated character in the entire Fullmetal Alchemist series. Nina and Alexander were such innocent and lovable characters; it was heartbreaking to see what happened to them.

Shou Tucker took his daughter and dog and mashed them together, creating a monster that never had a chance at a normal life. And to make it worse, he didn’t even feel remorse for his heinous actions.

He claimed he did it all in the name of science and alchemy. Thankfully, Scar took matters into his own hands and ended that devil before he could even face trial. Good riddance.

2. The Eclipse in Berserk

The show completely tears your heart out by making you watch your favorite characters get tortured and killed in the most gruesome ways possible. And all of it is thanks to that piece of garbage, Griffith.

Berserk’s Eclipse is a complete nightmare. Griffith sacrifices his friends for his own selfish gain and rapes Casca right in front of Guts just to spite him.

Every time I thought that it couldn’t possibly get worse, it did. I don’t know how anyone could watch the Eclipse and not be scarred for life. I had grown to love these characters and saw them as part of Guts’ family, only for them to be fed to monsters.

I have no words for how inhumane everything that happened to Casca was, and sometimes I wonder if taking the brutality to such an extreme extent was necessary. Sure, it left a lasting impact, but was it worth it?

1. “Goosh Goosh” Tokyo Tribe 2

This is one of the most painful things you’ll ever witness in an anime. The sound effects alone are enough to make me want to hurl.

The infamous “Goosh Goosh” scene in Tokyo Tribe 2 depicts an ugly bastard violently butt-raping a man in graphic detail for a full minute, who ends up dying in a pool of his own blood.

And the worst part? It serves absolutely no purpose in the story whatsoever. It’s just a bunch of blood-soaked filler that’ll make you want to scrub your eyes out with bleach.

The fact that this scene was aired on TV without any censorship makes me wonder about the sanity of the people behind it.
