The upcoming episode of Young Sheldon will show sibling relationships at their best—another round of bickering and blaming each other for their shortcomings.
Young Sheldon’s Season 5 Episode 9 is titled The Yips and an Oddly Hypnotic Bohemian. While the teaser video gives no sign of the latter, it shows the siblings Missy (Raegan Revord) and Sheldon (Iain Armitage) getting stuck in their respective areas of expertise.
The clip shows Missy practicing and telling Sheldon that her baseball coach thinks she “has the yips.” Even though the word sounds comical, yips are defined as a sudden loss of ability or increased nervousness affecting an athlete’s abilities. It is also often called performance anxiety.
Sheldon asks if they’re contagious and whether they are or not, he thinks he’s got it. The genius in him couldn’t write a single word in the exam paper and froze on the spot, blaming Missy for her “yips.” Her sister, in turn, calls it going through puberty.

Failing or blanking out on a test would be an abomination for the kid-genius. There has to be something indefinitely wrong with him for this to happen and he concludes it to be Missy’s yips that are messing with his head.
As the forever top scorer who cannot help but show off at every chance he gets, this incident might be Sheldon’s first encounter with performance anxiety or nervousness.
Knowing how particular Sheldon Cooper is, especially from the parent show The Big Bang Theory, it’s difficult to foresee how the young genius will get past this difficulty.
As a spin-off of one of the most iconic pop culture characters, Young Sheldon has surprisingly received average reviews compared to the success of the parent show (or even actor Jim Parsons). But it still gives loyal fans a bit of insight into the childhood of the socially awkward genius, Sheldon Cooper.
Young Sheldon Season 5 Episode 9 will air on December 9, 2021, on CBS and HBO Max.
