Xbox is shutting down the Console Companion App on August 28th, 2023

The only thing going the right way for Microsoft regarding gaming is their first new IP in over 25 years – Starfield, developed by Bethesda, which is set to release soon. Xbox is getting some massive changes, and fans are not pleased.

Microsoft has announced that they are ending support for the Xbox Console Companion app on August 28th, 2023, which allows users to access several Xbox features from their PC. The newer Xbox app will replace it.

Players must rely on third-party methods to export screenshots from console to PC. For a bit of context, Xbox App became the primary option for connectivity between Xbox One and Windows PCs in 2016.

The app allowed users to browse and purchase Xbox One Games, view achievements and game captures, and access the community content.

In 2019, the app was rebranded to “Xbox Console Companion App.” The app, however, retained all of its key features. The app is being shut down on August 28th. This means sign-ins will be impossible since the servers will be shut down.

Microsoft has prompted users to download the new Xbox app to enjoy the same features, services, and communities from Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via Windows.

It must be noted that the Xbox Console Companion website now redirects to the Xbox app website, allowing users to download the new app for mobile and Windows.

Microsoft is making life easier by including the new Xbox App with every installation of Windows 11. So, those transitioning from Windows 10 to 11 can download it manually from Microsoft Store.

The primary cause of disappointment is the short notice of the deprecation of the app. However, it must be remembered that the Xbox Console Companion App shutting down will not affect the Xbox Game Pass subscription in any way whatsoever.

The primary reason for the new app is that the older Xbox Console Companion app focused primarily on connection with Xbox One and not the newer consoles.

Fans have noted that some features are missing in the Xbox App from the Xbox Console Companion App. Microsoft is expected to introduce updates and listen to the user complaints to improve the new app.
