Blood and Honey Gets One-Day Theatrical Release in February 2023

After becoming a viral topic on social media, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has secured a one-day theatrical release date in February 2023.

The film was first announced in May 2021, shortly after A.A Milne’s beloved characters entered the public domain. The gory and supernatural take on the much-loved cartoon characters caused havoc on social media when stills from the upcoming movie were released.

The stills from the film, released by Jagged Edge Productions, featured a bloodthirsty Pooh and a tusked Piglet dealing with a potential victim. The trailer, which was released in August, further added to the hype as it depicted Pooh and Piglet going on a murderous rampage.

The upcoming horror film is set several years after the events of the original animated stories. The premise is that Christopher Robin stopped visiting Hundred Acre Woods as he grew up. Without their human friend, Pooh and Piglet began suffering from starvation and depression.

The animals were forced to return to their animalistic roots, going so far as to hunt and eat their friend, Eeyore. In Blood and Honey, Christopher Robin, now an adult, returns to his childhood home with his wife only to find out that his old friends are now on a murderous rampage of college girls.

The online hype and interest in the gory horror film has paid-off for director Rhys Frake-Waterfield and Jagged Edge Productions. According to THR, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has secured a one-day theatrical release date of February 13, 2023.

Fathom Events will host the film in U.S theaters, while Altitude, Cineplex, and Cinemex will handle the U.K, Canadian, and Mexican releases. The buzz surrounding Blood and Honey has definitely encouraged Frake-Waterfield. Reports suggest that he is already developing a sequel to the film, along with a twisted Peter Pan horror movie.

Much of the buzz surrounding Blood and Honey stems from the completely unexpected avatar of everyone’s beloved teddy-bear. But a unique concept cannot always guarantee quality. There’s no guarantee that the film will click with lovers of horror films so quickly, especially since it is getting a one-day release.

Nevertheless, if the film turns out to be good in terms of story, screenplay and cinematography as well, then it can surely be a winner. Hopefully, Frake-Waterfield will not only bank on the novelty of his concept but also focus on his content.
