Tulsa King Season 2 Release Date, Plot, Cast, and more

People better get used to seeing Sylvester Stallone on television, as his series Tulsa King has officially been renewed for a second season on Paramount Plus. The Hollywood Reporter first shared the news regarding the renewal.

Sylvester Stallone is one of the most accomplished film figures working today. In his 40-plus years of hits and misses, Oscar nods for acting and writing, and the creation of an iconic character (Rambo), Sylvester Stallone has created a guaranteed legacy of his own. Despite this, the actor was missing one crucial career notch—a good gangster role. He finally landed the role that evaded him for decades with Tulsa King, a Paramount+ Yellowstone spinoff series created and co-written by Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter.

The series has been a hit for Paramount+ and has received a positive reception from critics and the audience alike. These factors have contributed to the second season being greenlit by the studio even before the completion of Season 1.

Taylor Sheridan has been able to parlay the growing popularity of Yellowstone into success to make up the playfully called Sheridan-verse. These shows include direct Yellowstone prequels like 1883 and 192, as well as more thematically similar spinoffs like Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King.

Stallone has reportedly teased that he would like to do a cameo on Yellowstone one day. Although there is no certainty if that would be with his Tulsa King character, the second season announcement does increase the chances.

1. Tulsa King Beats House of the Dragons with its Cable Premiere

The highly anticipated crime drama premiered its first two episodes on November 13, exclusively on Paramount+, where subsequent episodes will debut weekly.

The Paramount Network cable channel then aired the first two episodes on November 20, following a new installment of Sheridan’s smash series Yellowstone.

The strategy paid off for the gangster saga, produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

Tulsa King scored as the no. 1 new series of the year, topping all others including the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, with its preview on Paramount Network, and on Paramount+, it shattered records, driving us to our biggest new sign-up day in history—which is why we instantly greenlit Season 2.”

Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios

The first episode of the series alone brought in 3.7 million viewers. Along with House of the Dragons, it also bested FX’s The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, and Amy Brenneman.

2. Tulsa King: Cast and Crew

Mob stories typically end in a bloodbath, so it’s anyone’s guess which characters will survive Season 1. The current cast of misfits and shady characters is expected to return for the second-season campaign, assuming they don’t end up dead by the end of the first season.

In addition to Stallone, the Tulsa King cast comprises Martin Starr as a weed dispensary runner Bodhi, Garett Hedlund as a bartender Mitch Keller, and Jay Will as a cabbie Tyson.

Manfredi’s bosses “back East” include Domenik Lombardozzi as Don Charles “Chickie” Invernizzi, Max Casella as Armand Truisi, and Vincent Piazza as Vince Antonacci. Filling out the roster of characters is Dana Delany as Margaret and Andrea Savage as Stacy Beale. There is no word on whether show creators Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter will be back for the second season.

3. Tulsa King: Release Date

Tulsa King premiered on November 13 exclusively on Paramount Plus, with episodes released weekly. It got the traditional broadcast airing on Paramount Network on November 20 and November 27, after the episodes of Yellowstone Season 5.

Since the first season is not over and more than five episodes are still remaining, the premiere date for Tulsa King Season 2 is TBA. We could guess that the second season could land sometime in late 2023 at the very earliest, but it’s more likely to see a 2024 release.

4. Where was Tulsa King filmed?

Tulsa King was filmed in various locations around Oklahoma City, Tulsa Bethany, and the surrounding areas across six months, bringing an estimated spend of more than $56 million to the state.

Along with creating Tulsa King, Sheridan serves as an executive producer alongside Terence Winter, an Oscar nominee and Emmy winner who has projects like The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, and The Wolf of Wall Street to his name.

Tulsa King is not just the largest scripted TV series made in Oklahoma with the incentives under the new Filmed in Oklahoma Act of 2021, it is also the largest scripted TV series ever made in the Sooner State.

Season 1 premiered just 18 months after Gov. Kevin Stitt signed the state’s new $30-million-a-year tax incentive for film and television productions.

5. What happened in Tulsa King Season 1?

Stallone stars as Dwight Manfredi, a lifelong member of the mafia who has just been released from prison after 25 years. Having refused to divulge details about his mafia family to anyone, Dwight expects to be recognized for his loyalty but is unceremoniously exiled by his boss to Tulsa, Oklahoma. This makes him realize that the mob family may not have his best interests in mind. He then slowly builds a crew from a group of unlikely characters to help him establish a new criminal empire in a city that might as well be another planet to him.
