Will the Fantasy K-Drama ‘Death’s Game’ Be Renewed for Season 2?

The South Korean thriller-fantasy series Death’s Game ended last week with a satisfying finale.

The series, based on Lee Won-sik and Ggul-chan’s webtoon of the same name, revolves around a young man facing several hardships and turning suicidal. He kills himself and finds himself face-to-face with Death.

Death is personified in the series and is a living, breathing character who punishes Choi Yee-jae for committing suicide by challenging him to reincarnate 12 times in the bodies of people who are nearing death.

Season 1 was released in two parts and consists of 8 episodes. The first 4 episodes premiered on December 15, 2023, while the last four premiered on January 5, 2024.

The ending was happy and fulfilling for the protagonist, but we have to have an imminent discussion about a potential season 2. Here’s the scoop we have so far.

1. Will there be a Death’s Game season 2?

Death’s Game has not been renewed for a season 2 as of writing. It is unlikely to be renewed for another season as the story has come to an end, going by the source material.

K-dramas generally wrap up their storyline within a single season, and there’s not much scope for it to be renewed. It differs greatly from Western shows, which are frequently longer than one season.

Death’s Game is no different. The series is based on a webtoon of the same name, and the story has concluded if we go by the source material. The protagonist, Choi Yee-Jae, got his happy ending, and the finale did not drop any hints about a potential season 2.

Unless the makers drag the storyline by adding their own inputs, there’s no material for season 2. There’s a high chance of the show not being renewed for such reasons.
