Will Guardians Return after Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally has a trailer. The intergalactic Guardians weren’t very well known when the first film in the line-up was released. 2014 marked the year when James Gunn

introduced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 with a star-studded cast.

Director James Gunn is headed off to DC Studios after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Many fans wonder whether this journey for intergalactic heroes will be the last one. After all, we’ve just seen the addition of Nebula and Cosmo to the team.

1. Can the Guardians Still Appear in Crossovers?

The original team of the Guardians of the Galaxy might not return for future MCU movies.

In the MCU, crossovers are almost a prerequisite. As a shared universe based on decades of comic book stories that have featured hundreds of team-ups and crossover events, it’s inevitable.

The entire Guardians team appeared during the epic end of the MCUs’ Phase 3 in Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, aiding in the defeat of Thanos. The Guardians have also been inextricably linked with Thor after meeting at the end of Phase 4 and appearing in Thor’s fourth film Thor: Love and Thunder.

Of course, no one can say what the future holds, especially regarding the MCU and the studio’s ability to get seemingly impossible cameos and cast members. However, this iteration of the Guardians seems unlikely to appear again past their final outing.

Many of the cast members have expressed their desires to move on and leave the characters behind, especially with James Gunn ending his tenure.

It’s always possible that new Guardians will be cast, and the team could be rebooted in the future, but that is almost certainly a long way off.

2. Which Guardians will return after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3?

The most glaringly obvious character confirmed to be returning to the MCU is, of course, none other than Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill, a.k.a Star-Lord.

In case you missed the blindingly bright “The Legendary Star-Lord will return” following the film’s post-credits scene.

From here, we can make a few educated speculative guesses about who else we’ll see again.

Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista have ruled out Gamora and Drax’s respective returns, given that the former character has a new life as a ravage. At the same time, the latter has a settlement of ‘moron’ children to look after. However, the film’s mid-credits scene hints that a new team of guardians could resurface at some point, with a few of its O.Gs – namely Groot, Rocket, and to a lesser extent, Kraglin.

Of course, this could not always come to pass but instead served as a fond farewell and an assurance that wherever the MCU may wind up.

3. Marvel is Making Room for New Heroes

Along with the fact that Gunn has become joint head of DC projects at Warner, many cast members have said they wish to move on. Marvel is trying to introduce new heroes and characters to the big and small screen.

One such new super-powered being is Adam Warlock, who will debut in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Will Poulter will be playing the character, who in the comics has an affinity with the Soul Stone and is a longtime enemy of Thanos. Warlock was trapped in the Soul Stone for years before breaking free and essentially being resurrected.

He also has a long list of highly formidable powers, including superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and manipulation of cosmic power for energy projection. He can also fly and restore/regenerate himself by cocooning his body and emerging healed.

In the comics, he was created/birthed from a cocoon, an ability that makes him stronger each time. There needs to be more information about what carryover will be from the comic character to the screen.

However, audiences have seen a glimpse of Poulter in character, complete with golden skin, in the trailer for the third film.

Oscar Isaac has made waves on the small screen side with his portrayal of Moon Knight. He is a hero imbued with powers by the Egyptian God Khonshu and suffers from dissociative identity disorder.

She-Hulk has also been introduced, played by Tatiana Maslany, and Charlie Cox has returned to play Daredevil, but this time as a canon part of the MCU. The Thunderbolts and Blade are also getting their big-screen adventures, and Deadpool will finally join the MCU proper with the third film.

4. Who is a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy after Volume 3?

Throughout James Gunn’s MCU trilogy, we’ve come to know the Guardians of the Galaxy quite well. For the most part, the cast has remained the same — albeit with some unexpected additions.

However, like all things, change is inevitable, and as the director previously teased, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the gateway for this change.

From their comic book origins, the Guardians of the Galaxy has boasted a rotating lineup with many different heroes jumping along the way. The MCU will take this approach, switching things up for any future appearance from this group.

Marvel has a lot on the horizon in big and small projects. The MCU is already approaching critical mass, and overcrowding is starting to show, especially in the box office performances and quality of recent movies. The MCU needs to end some stories and leave characters behind.
