Will Tanjiro become a Hashira/Pillar?

Tanjiro has definitely climbed up the ladder of demon slayers from the first time that we saw him. In the very beginning, he is shown to be a young and sweet boy, forced to shoulder the responsibilities of a large family, after his father’s untimely demise.

Taking care of his several siblings and his mother, while selling charcoal to make ends meet, had taken its toll on him. While the journey he embarked upon was tough, he did reach his goal!

Tanjiro Kamado does not become a hashira / pillar of the Demon Slayer corps. In the final chapter of the manga, he defeats the Demon King, Kibutsuji Muzan thereby eliminating all the demons, and in extension eliminates the need for Demon Slayer corps and Hashiras altogether.

Tanjiro’s Journey

Returning from selling charcoal one day- the sight that greets Tanjiro is that of his murdered family.

A demon had attacked them and the only one who was left alive was his sister- Nezuko, barely conscious and covered in blood. He then vows to kill demons and find a cure for his sister, thus starting his journey as a Demon Slayer.

Tanjiro’s Strength & Abilities

He is not merely hard-working, but he is smart too- during full-fledged fights with his opponents, he comes up with well thought out strategies, tailor-made for those specific opponents. Under Giyu’s recommendation, Urokodaki takes him as a disciple and manages to teach him ‘Breath of the Water’ a difficult sword technique.

He even manages to master Full Focus Breathing completely, something only Hashiras are normally capable of doing. Tanjiro also incorporates the Dance of the Fire God into his fighting style – something that is considered a derivative of Breath of the Sun.

Later on in the manga, he unlocks the ‘See-through world ability’ which was something his father had before him. A highly useful ability- where one can not just foresee the opponent’s moves, but also enter a mental state where battle spirit and bloodlust do not exist, preventing the opponents from sensing him. All this just makes him stronger and stronger.

Demon Mark Awakening

His demon mark gets strengthened over time, which increases his strength, speed, and ability many times over. But there is always a catch – he can only use this ability for a relatively short amount of time and it always leaves him completely drained.

This helps him to subdue Daki when he attacks her to the point that she becomes completely incapable of harming him. If Akaza hadn’t developed resistance against being decapitated, he would have defeated him too. He was even able to successfully counter-attack one of Akaza’s attacks that even Giyu wasn’t able to handle.

About Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotoge. Its publication in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump began in February 2016 with 19 collected tankōbon volumes released as of present.

In a world filled with demons and demon slayers, Kimetsu no Yaiba follows the lives of two siblings Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado, after— the murder of their family at the hands of a demon. Their hardship does not end there, as Nezuko’s life is spared only for her to live as a demon.

As the oldest sibling, Tanjiro vows to protect and cure his sister. The story traces this brother-sister bond or, better yet, demon slayer and demon combo against the odds of an arch antagonist and society.
