Kaguya-sama: Love is War? Season 2 may have ended a few weeks ago. But with the end of episode twelve strongly hinting at ‘Season 1’s opening theme song’ , many fans were left wondering what the future awaits this hilarious show’s cast of characters.
While this question has been answered in the manga, we will only be talking about it from an anime-only point of view. But a disclaimer note has been added below for those of you who would want to read the spoiler section that answers the original question.
Romance continues to blossom between the main cast at the prestigious and elite Shui’ichin Academy’s Student Council.
As one of the funniest rom-com animes that premiered in Spring 2020, Season 2 took the romance one step higher because Kaguya and Shirogane’s love is in the spotlight!
Will Kaguya and Shirogane get together?
Many moments in the series hinted at the fact that their feelings for each other are so obvious that a second season isn’t even needed to prolong the story.
For example, in Season 1, Shirogane visited a sick Kaguya in her mansion and romantic chaos ensued. Similarly, in Season 2, Shirogane embraced Kaguya so tightly that he neither flinched nor got embarrassed.
Despite these unexpected incidents, important build-ups such as these help the characters progress romantically.
By the end of Season 2, Kaguya and Shirogane’s feelings for one another had grown so much that fans speculated a destined romance between them in one way or another.
Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane will get together sometime in the “Kaguya Wants to be Confessed to: The Geniuses’ War of Hearts and Minds” series. It’s destined because they are the protagonists of the show. It has also been teased again and again over various instances.
Will Kaguya and Shirogane kiss?
The Election Arc and Sports Festival Arc of the anime answered this question. But since neither story arcs put Kaguya and Miyuki front and center, the romantic tension brewing behind the scenes died down a little.
In the election arc, Shirogane is one step closer to confessing his feelings. But, the incident inside the sports festival equipment storage room takes the cake as Kaguya and Shirogane almost kiss!
Even if no kiss occurred inside the storage room, the heartbeats of many viewers, Miyuki, and Kaguya herself, palpitated with excitement!
The manga goes further though. Miyuki and Kaguya’s relationship reached a turning point. Kaguya made the first move and kissed Miyuki on the rooftop during the Cultural Festival Arc! He even asked Kaguya to go study at Stanford University with him in America! Wow! What a confession! 😍
Kaguya x Miyuki’s Love
In the Season 1 finale, having watched the summer fireworks together with him, Kaguya’s feelings for Shirogane became stronger.
Then, what a start to Season 2! The fireworks of romance became brighter when ‘Kaguya imagined herself getting married to Shirogane’.
In an early episode in Season 2, Shirogane was elated when Kaguya gave him a single slice of cake for his 17th birthday.
He was also thrilled when he received his birthday present from Kaguya: a summer fan with Kaguya’s elegant calligraphy that emphasizes Shirogane’s diligence and determination.
This scene alone highlighted the fact of his admiration and feelings for a sheltered girl like Kaguya.
Moreover, the finale of both seasons parallel one another since Shirogane keeps aiding and supporting Kaguya during her moments of distress.
In Season 1’s finale, Shirogane helped Kaguya see the summer fireworks from outside of her mansion for the first time.
Similarly, in Season 2, Shirogane saved the day when he helped Kaguya recover from a momentary lapse of depression when photos of Kaguya’s were lost from her broken phone.
As the days passed by, Kaguya and Miyuki spent more time together as a couple rather than just mere Student Council members. One thing that fans didn’t see coming is Kaguya canceling her application from the prestigious Stanford University.
The romantic tension and build-ups in the first two anime seasons and in the manga amplified when Kaguya withdrew her Stanford application. Her older half-brother (Oko Shinomiya) threatened to “impurify” Ai Hayasaka (Kaguya’s faithful female attendant) if Kaguya goes to Stanford.
Oko admitted to Kaguya that he doesn’t care whether Kaguya slept with her boyfriend. But he cannot allow her to obtain higher educational credentials than the future bridegroom the Shinomiya family will handpick for her. He also established his authority on the Hayasaka family, saying that they are his pawns or tools.
Kaguya rescinded her Stanford application because she must stay in Japan to fight her manipulators from the inside. She doesn’t want Miyuki holding back on his dreams thought, which is why she insists he goes to America without her.
Right now, these two lovebirds’ romance is hanging in the balance. After all, when Kaguya withdrew her Stanford application, it also signals she’s taking one step backwards from Miyuki. Fans are expecting more twists and turns from Aka Akasaka’s rom-com series.
But if the couple doesn’t get a happy ending, this seinen series will likely get a bittersweet story of separation and then a reunion that will manifest after a significant time skip. But no matter what kind of ending this series will get, fans know all too well that Kaguya and Miyuki are star-crossed lovers.
