Based on the chapter 1079 spoilers that were released, Eustass Kidd and his crew are annihilated. However, Oda doesn’t tend to kill his characters easily which gives us a little hope that Kidd might survive this defeat.

Kidd vs Shanks: The Outcome!

The full summary spoilers of One Piece Chapter 1079 were released on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. The issue shows the battle between Shanks and Eustass Kid.

We see Kidd destroy the ships of the Red Hair Pirates and defeat all of the captains with his attack. However, this is revealed to be a Future sight that Shanks saw throughout his Observation Haki and not the reality.

Shanks just attacks Kidd on his own seeing the amount of destruction that he is capable of. It then shows Kidd who is unconscious and Killer who sustained terrible damage from Shanks’ attack.

It appears the pair was easily defeated in a single attack from Shanks, prompting the rest of the crew to beg for mercy. They hand over the Poneglyphs without any resistance and Shanks leaves without uttering a single word.

Dorry and Brogy then employ the Hakoku Sovereignty attack which causes Kidd and his crew to drown in the sea. The narrator comments then on how Eustass Kid and his crew have been “completely annihilated.”

Is Eustass Kidd dead?

Even though information points towards the obvious defeat and probable death of Eustass D Kidd, hunch points out towards the other end considering Oda’s writing style.

Oda generally doesn’t like killing off his characters. He generally puts in a lot of effort and makes the character’s death quite meaningful. Not that he couldn’t do that with Kidd but the death just wouldn’t be significant enough.

It’s also weird that the narrator says “completely annihilated”. It could just mean that they were utterly defeated and not actually killed. Based on all these factors, it might be possible for Kidd to have been rescued by somebody and be alive by the end of this arc.
