Will clone trooper Commander Cody return in “The Bad Batch” Season 2?

The second season of the massively successful “The Bad Batch” is here and fans can’t keep calm. The season started airing in January and continues the adventures of Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, Tech, and Omega as they try to survive in the wake of Order 66.

The Season 2 trailer teased many potential returns including that of the fan-favorite Commander Cody making the fans excited and curious with a lot of questions in their mind.

Let’s find out more regarding Cody’s return.

1. Will Commander Cody be in “The Bad Batch” Season 2?

Yes! The fan-favorite Clone Trooper Commander Cody will return in “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” Season 2 setting up a potentially worse betrayal from a prominent clone character than even Crosshair in Season 1.

The newest “Bad Batch” Season 2 trailer leaked more of Cody’s inclusion in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars spinoff, also revealing what the fan-favorite clone has been up to post-Revenge of the Sith.

In the “The Bad Batch” season 2 trailer, Cody can be seen fighting alongside Bad Batcher Crosshair in what is presumably a manhunt for the members of Clone Force 99. Although his appearance in the teaser clip is brief, viewers can spot Cody’s recognizable facial scar as he pulls a knife while facing off against his opponent.

Cody is poised to be one of the antagonists of “The Bad Batch” Season 2. Cody, a veteran seasoned in combat could pose a significant threat to Clone Force 99 as they continue to hide in the shadows following the explosive season 1 finale-especially with the assistance of Crosshair.

Cody mentions that “more and more clones have begun questioning the order,” – a likely reference to Order 66.

Other clips show Cody leading Clone Troopers in battle and reassuring people that the Empire wants to “establish peace and order throughout the galaxy,” though instead of his traditional orange-colored uniform, Cody’s Armor is now painted grey.

Fans are surely excited and waiting for the return of their favorite character.

Commander Cody was one of the few clones to be properly introduced in live-action, having been portrayed by Temuera Morrison in Episode III – “Revenge of the Sith (2005)”.

Cody was subjected to the atrocities of Order 66 and was ordered by Chancellor Palpatine to kill his friend and Jedi General, Obi-Wan Kenobi, at the end of the film.

We dived further into Cody’s backstory in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, where he was shown as a good, loyal man who diligently fought for the Republic alongside his brothers.

However, unlike Captain Rex, Cody was unable to remove his inhibitor chip, and thus became an unwilling pawn of the Sith in their attempts to eradicate the Jedi Order. Until now, Cody had yet to reappear in the canon timeline after Revenge of the Sith.

2. The Kiners talk about Cody’s Role.

Speaking to The Convor Call on Youtube, “The Bad Batch” composers Kevin, Sean, and Dean Kiner went into some detail regarding Commander Cody’s role in the show’s upcoming season.

Dean Kiner was sure to mention “different turns” in Cody’s episode:

“Yeah, there’s a great moment with [Cody.] That’s the most I’ll say. And I personally really– I love that episode. I think the direction of it is kind of… it’s another turn… You know, Bad Batch… one thing Kevin was talking about, we’re always just taking all these different turns and that episode goes in such an interesting place for some characters, Cody included. So, it’s just… I love the nuance in that episode and I’m excited for you guys to see that one.”

3. Commander Cody’s Fate

Before The Bad Batch’s Star Wars Celebration trailer, Disney-era Star Wars shows never officially banked upon Cody’s fate after the “The Clone Wars” and prequel trilogy.

According to writer Henry Gilroy, Cody was almost reintroduced in “Star Wars Rebels” as an Imperial ally and consultant of Season 3-4 villain Grand Admiral Thrawn, but this was eventually discarded.

Although Cody’s military counterpart Captain Rex received multiple post-Clone Wars appearances and ended up becoming a major Rebels supporting character. He also had a cameo in “The Bad Batch” Season 1 episode “Battle Scars” and is expected to return for the second season too.

The news regarding Cody’s return has surely made the fans more excited and has raised hopes for the second season with people speculating the future storylines and awaiting Cody’s return at the same time.
