Will Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Feature a Third-Person Camera Mode?

Ubisoft is bringing the Pandora experience to all next-gen platforms this December with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Gameplay was officially shown at Ubisoft Forward 2023, and it looks different from what we have seen from Massive Entertainment, the developers behind The Division series. Fans are wondering if the game will have a third-person mode on release or not.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to be a first-person adventure. A third-person mode for the game is unlikely. However, the game changes to third person when riding or flying through the skies of Pandora on a mount. The rest of the gameplay is completely in first-person.

This might be a bit disappointing for players who were looking to enjoy the beautiful world of Pandora in third person. The gameplay looks similar to Far Cry, but in the world of Avatar. It is confirmed to be a first-person game for now, with the exception of riding mounts.

Will Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora be single-player?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora can be played solo or co-op. The game is designed as a single-player adventure, but players can play the game in its entirety by teaming up with a friend through two-player online multiplayer co-op.

The game will not feature a multiplayer mode, although the co-op is still a nice addition. Being able to explore the large and interesting open world of Pandora with a friend sounds like a good time.

Taming a Mountain Banshee

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora puts players into the role of a N’avi who has just woken up from 15-year cryosleep. The story is about the N’avi trying to save Pandora by battling the terran RDA forces. It is worth noting that the protagonist is an actual N’avi and not a human in a N’avi’s body.

The game will feature customization as well. It is said that “Your Na’vi character is customizable with options including different body types, voices and body paint” which means there won’t be a canon protagonist and players can get a tailor-made experience.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is confirmed to be an open-world game, set in the Western Frontier of Pandora. The open-world will be explorable with the use of mounts. The game features aerial combat against the RDA with mountain banshees as well.

Additionally, the game can be played solo or co-op. This means that the open-world of Pandora can be explored with a friend. Much like other open-world games, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has gear and weapon upgrading systems as well as character customization.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is indeed canon to the Avatar universe that we’ve seen in the Avatar movies. James Cameron, the director of the Avatar films, has stated that the game will feature an original story which coexists with the events of the two Avatar films.

This is a delightful news for the fans of the Avatar films as it means that the game could have certain nods to them. The game is set in a never-seen-before part of Pandora, which is the Western Frontiers hence it will be interesting to see how much the game ties into the Avatar films.

At this time, it is difficult to say whether there will be a mod to change Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to third-person. The game is confirmed to be first-person as of now. There could be mods to change the game to third-person when it releases on PC this December 7, although it is uncertain.

Currently, players looking to scratch their itch for a third-person Avatar game will be disappointed. However, this game does have a third-person mode when riding a mount but not during any other gameplay mechanic.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora does look like the Avatar experience we’ve all been waiting for since the movie tie-in game released back in 2009. Let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint.
