Animal Kingdom Takes Its Final Bow with Season 6

Fans are still reeling from Animal Kingdom’s emotional S6 finale. Right from a thrilling sequence of Deran and Craig breaking Pope out of prison, to Julia’s past coming to haunt the Codys, to J finally revealing his cards, this episode served us a full course meal and then some!

Animal Kingdom has enjoyed its fair share of success and has even gained a cult following over years. Does this mean it will get renewed for a new season?

TNT won’t be renewing Animal Kingdom for S7. The show has already culminated and been given a definitive ending through its S6 series finale, “Fubar.”

Why Animal Kingdom Won’t Get Renewed for S7

The first and foremost reason that Animal Kingdom won’t get renewed is that the show has finished exploring all its possible storylines.

You have to remember that the show was based on a 2010 Australian film, so it has already spent six seasons expanding the source material to its utmost capacity.

Season 6 in particular ensured that the show tied up all its loose ends set up since S1. This very well includes giving the audience a definite answer about J’s loyalties and his motives—a moral quandary that gives Animal Kingdom (and its metaphor) all its flavor.

There’s also a technical aspect to consider. Due to the Warner Bros-Discovery deal, a lot of cable and streaming shows have been canceled. Plus, TNT (which is predominately known for its sports broadcast) is doing away with all scripted media as well. Animal Kingdom was the network’s second-last scripted show to air.

So, if we are to see Animal Kingdom’s legacy continue in some other way, it might be via a spinoff on a streaming platform.

Animal Kingdom is an American drama television series developed by Jonathan Lisco. It is based on the 2010 Australian film of the same name directed by David Michôd, who is executive producer for the series, alongside Liz Watts, who also produced the 2010 film.

The series follows a 17-year-old boy, who, after the death of his mother, moves in with his estranged relatives, the Codys, a criminal family clan governed by the matriarch Smurf.

The crime drama stars Ellen Barkin, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, Jake Weary, Finn Cole, Danielle Alonso, Molly Gordon, and Denis Leary. Season 6 will be the final season of the show.
