Harry Potter TV series: Potterheads are not Happy with the Decision

We’re returning to Hogwarts but on a much smaller screen.

HBO Max revealed it has commissioned a TV show adaptation of the Harry Potter novels, and each book will be turned into its season. While the announcement has sparked loads of joy amongst some wizards and witches worldwide, some aren’t happy about the idea.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint gave incredible performances as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, respectively, and we all watched them grow through adolescence.

But the fans are not happy!

Fans have flocked to social media to share their disappointment at the idea that a whole new batch of actors will have to be cast, and they’re worried it will erase the legacy established by the movie franchise.

The decade-long series will feature an all-new cast and will be a “faithful adaptation” of the world-famous books by JK Rowling, who will serve as executive producer.

Each season of the series will be based on one of the seven Harry Potter books, allowing its creative team to explore plot points that were cut from the films. The show is coming to Max – formerly HBO Max – the new streaming service of Warner Bros. They are the same production company behind the original films starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

The official Harry Potter Universe Twitter page wrote about the decision:

This new Harry Potter TV series will replace all of our favorite actors from the films and, despite being a massive fan of everything Harry Potter, I will NOT support it.

Really bummed about this. The films only finished a decade ago, and now all new actors will be playing the characters. Can’t picture anyone other than Alan Rickman as Snape, Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, Emma Watson as Hermione, and so on.

Some have called on HBO to cast people who are entirely unknown talents rather than established names to ensure the story of JK Rowling’s work shines through.

Fans excited about the project look forward to seeing all the parts from the books that never made it into the film.

The seven-book TV show adaptation has been described as a ‘decade-long’ undertaking that will flesh out all the words written by Rowling.

There’s no word yet on when we can expect to see the show drop on TVs worldwide, but you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be one of the most extensive series ever.

Is J.K. Rowling the reason for the boycott?

Fans of Harry Potter’s wizarding world have copped a massive boon with HBO officially confirming the network will turn the iconic fantasy novels into a television show.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling was also named as one of HBO’s executive producers working on the project.

It makes sense, considering her brain is the source of the whole thing.

But some people have kicked off on social media and said they wouldn’t be watching the show because of the author’s previous anti-trans comments.

One person said on Twitter: “We won’t be watching JK Cow-ling’s show.”

Another quipped: “DO NOT SUPPORT THIS SHOW.”

A third added: “It’s so cool that a whole new generation of kids will be able to experience learning about hateful and baseless transphobia.”

However, several people have jumped to Rowling’s defense online, pointing out that all the characters and stories came from her incredibly creative mind.

One user said: “So she should be. She created it. You entitled twerps.”

Another sarcastically added: “GET A JOB. GET AWAY FROM YOUR FRANCHISE.”

Rowling said she was “looking forward” to participating in the new adaptation.

Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series

The Harry Potter film series concluded 12 years ago with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2; the franchise’s popularity is still growing. The Potter video game Hogwarts Legacy became one of the fastest-selling games of the year in the UK and US when it launched in February.

But despite the Potter fandom still being in full force, some fans have slammed the new project as an “unnecessary remake.” Some feel it is too soon since the original films and other Wizarding World stories warrant a screen adaptation.

The newly-announced Max Original series will dive deep into each one of Rowling’s iconic books that have kept fans delighted for decades.

Despite the information about HBO’s newest television offering leaking on April 3, HBO is still keeping its cards close to its chest when it comes to further details on talent.

We have our internal process where we’ve been thinking about people, but we have not wanted to go out into the world saying, ‘Who do you have?’ But now that the news is out, we will start
