Nevertheless: Whom did Jae-Eon pick up at the airport?

Nevertheless draws no boundaries in exploring precarious relationships. With a timely cue to shake things up, we finally meet the show’s second leads! Here is Na-bi’s childhood friend Yang Do-hyeok and Jae-eon’s mysterious “airport woman” Yoon Seol-a.

For Do-hyeok, we receive a clear-cut background. By destiny’s hand, Na-bi and he recognize each other on the bus, ten years later, far, far away from their hometown.

A little foreshadowing was also in play here. In the previous episode, there’s a tiny snippet of Na-bi watching a popular Youtuber’s cooking channel, with of course, the chef’s face hidden for the video. Once we meet Do-hyeok, it is revealed that he is a chef, and more precisely, the chef Na-bi was watching in the Youtube video. Cherry on the top? The restaurant he works at is right around the corner from Na-bi!

Now until further episodes tell us more about Seol-a’s role, I’ve done some digging of my own to quench my (and hopefully, your) curiosity. One second lead down, one more to go.

Seol-a is first seen when Jae-eon picks her up at the airport. She’s presumably the deuteragonist of Netflix’s K-drama Nevertheless. It’s clear that Jae-eon seems to prioritize Seol-a and the instance that highlights this is when he abandons Na-bi on her birthday to meet his former flame.

1. A Deeper Dive Into Seol-a’s Character

If we had to believe the gossip around Hongseo University, Jae-eon is not one to be trusted in matters of the heart. The full-time flirt is known to string along with many a girl at a time. But things change when he grows attached to Na-bi.

Or at least, Na-bi herself thinks so until she finds him rushing off to the beck and call of one mysterious Seol-a. You could’ve fooled us Jae-eon.

We first meet Seol-a when Jae-eon picks her up at the airport. Their small episodes do show off that both know each other intimately, as Seol-a also comments on Jae-eon’s wicked sides.

Oh, wondering if you read that right? Yup – Seol-a, our second lead, used to date Jae-eon when they were younger.

2. Why is Seol-a back? Will she get back together with Jae-eon?

Seol-a makes a comeback after finishing off her studies in the USA. According to the webtoon, part of the reason she left was her turbulent relationship with Jae-eon. Despite that, Jae-eon is the first person she reconnects with once she lands in South Korea – that’s where you see Seol-a being picked up at the airport by Jae-eon.

To be perfectly candid, the Jae-Bi couple has always been dancing on thin ice. So, trouble is nothing new to the equation.

3. What role will Seol-a play in the Neverthelss storyline?

Weirdly enough, Seol-a’s destiny too lies in the Jae-Bi couple’s hands. In the webtoon, Seol-a gets heavily involved with Jae-eon due to a fight between the Jae-Bi couple.

However, the Jae-Bi couple in the K-drama is vastly different from the one in the webtoon. The tone in webtoons is usually darker. Which is why in the past too, K-dramas have discarded the complicated, sometimes toxic subplots of the webtoons they’re based on. (You may have noticed this in the recent K-drama rendition of True Beauty).

How Na-bi and Jae-eon’s own dynamics are played out in the K-drama is really important, especially in figuring out what will happen to both our second leads, Seol-a and Do-hyeok.

One thing’s for sure – when Seol-a does dish out details about Jae-eon, we better be all ears. After all, she knows him the best.
