There’s never been a Netflix finale quite like this. “You” season 5 rolled out its curtain call with fewer bodies, more chaos, and a karmic twist no one saw coming.
Joe Goldberg may have upgraded his wardrobe, social circle, and zip code – but make no mistake, the killer inside never went away.
Here’s everyone who had counted breaths in the last season.
1Buffalo Bob Cain
Ah, good ol’ Buffalo Bob – Lockwood Corporation board member, close family friend, and secret snake. Bob was always in Kate’s corner… or so she thought. Turns out, he leaked some juicy secrets about her criminal past to the press, threatening to ruin the entire Lockwood rebrand.
Kate, in a rare moment of cold resolve, gave Joe the green light to handle the situation. Joe didn’t even blink. He broke into Bob’s house, strangled him, staged it as a suicide, and walked away like it was just another Tuesday.
It wasn’t the bloodiest kill, but it was classic Joe – clean, calculated, and deeply disturbing. Also, it signaled something crucial: Kate knew exactly who she married. And for a moment, she was fine with it.
2Reagan Lockwood-Jacobs
Reagan was Kate’s half-sister and the corporate ice queen of the Lockwood clan. Her favorite hobbies? Blackmail, emotional torture, and plotting the downfall of her own family.
She hated that Kate inherited the company and made it her mission to dismantle everything – especially once she suspected Kate had a hand in Bob’s death.
Joe tried to stay out of it. He really did. But when Reagan targeted his son, Henry, all bets were off. Things went off the rails when Joe, intending to cage Reagan, accidentally kidnapped both twins – Reagan and Maddie.
In a chilling turn, he forced them into a twisted psychological showdown that ended with Maddie killing Reagan. Sure, Joe didn’t land the fatal blow, but let’s not pretend he didn’t orchestrate the whole thing like a deranged game of Clue.
3Clayton Angevine
Now this one? Chef’s kiss chaotic. Clayton Angevine entered the picture as Bronte’s abusive ex, all bluster and toxic masculinity. Of course Joe wanted him gone.
But the twist? Clayton wasn’t actually Bronte’s ex – he was Dr. Nicky’s son. Yes, that Dr. Nicky, the therapist Joe framed for Beck’s murder in season 1.
Clayton, along with an army of online sleuths, was part of a Reddit vigilante group determined to expose Joe. The fake ex act was all part of a sting operation.
But in a plot twist worthy of its own miniseries, Joe caught wind of the setup and murdered Clayton on TikTok Live. The internet lost its collective mind. Joe had officially crossed over from mysterious serial killer to viral menace.
4Dane
Dane was one of those unhinged fanboys who took Joe’s side after the Bronte catfishing scandal broke. While half the internet hailed Bronte as a hero, the darker corners labeled her a temptress who ruined Joe’s life.
Dane took things way too far, attempting to kidnap Bronte in some twisted act of retribution.Joe, ever the reluctant “hero,” saved Bronte and locked Dane in Mooney’s basement cage. He gave Bronte the choice: let him live or die.
She chose mercy. Joe did not. He killed Dane anyway, behind her back, believing it was for her own good. Spoiler alert: that would be Joe’s last kill before justice came calling.
Final Thoughts
Joe Goldberg’s reign of terror is officially over, but “You” went out with a bang (and a few broken necks). The final season gave us poetic justice, layered drama, and a masterclass in how not to handle your emotional baggage.
Joe didn’t just lose – he lost everything. And honestly? It was the ending we all needed. Justice. Served.
