Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 was an emotional goodbye to our favorite cosmic superheroes, but it also gave us something exciting to look forward to in the future.

SPOILERS AHEAD! This page contains spoilers from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

Many fan theories suggested that James Gunn might have killed off some of the Guardians but thankfully, that didn’t happen. The group however did disband with most of them going their separate ways.

At the end of Volume 3, Star-Lord, or Peter Quill, announces that he’s taking a break to visit Earth and reconnect with his grandfather. Gamora decides to go back to the Ravagers since they are now like family to her.

Mantis feels like she needs to explore the galaxy on her own and do things for herself because she’s spent all her life following others’ orders, whether she was with Ego or the Guardians.

Nebula and Drax decide to stay back on Knowhere. Nebula wants to help rebuild the society since it was destroyed by the High Evolutionary’s army. Drax realizes his purpose as a father, so he stays to take care of the children they rescued from the High Evolutionary’s laboratory.

The only remaining original Guardians of the Galaxy are Rocket and Groot, with Rocket now becoming the new leader. GOTG Vol.3’s mid-credits scene shows us the new additions to the crew: Kraglin, Cosmo the Spacedog, Adam Warlock and Phyla-Vell.

1. Kraglin

Kraglin

Kraglin has been with the Guardians since the start of the franchise, and he became a sort of secondary member after he fought alongside them in Thor: Love and Thunder. But in Volume 3, he officially becomes a Guardian.

Kraglin was first introduced as Yondu’s second in command. After Yondu dies, Kraglin inherits his psychic head fin that controls an incredibly powerful arrow.

In GOTG Vol.3, Kraglin initially struggles to control his psychic arrow. But when the High Evolutionary attacks Knowhere, he finally masters it and takes out several Hellspawn in one go. It’s his vision of Yondu that gives him the confidence to control the arrow.

Kraglin proved his worth when Knowhere needed him the most. He has definitely earned his spot as one of the new Guardians.

2. Cosmo the Spacedog

Cosmo the Spacedog

Cosmo the Spacedog made her MCU debut in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film where she was one of the prisoners of the Collector. She later survives the destruction of the Collector’s collection caused by the Power Stone and is now living safely on Knowhere.

In Volume 3, Cosmo spends most of her time by Kraglin’s side and the two of them together take over operations in the Guardians’ absence. She has great telekinetic powers which she uses to fight the Hellspawn when they attack Knowhere.

Although Kraglin and Cosmo don’t exactly get along in the beginning, by the end of the movie we see them become trustworthy teammates.

3. Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock and Ayesha

Adam Warlock made his long-awaited MCU debut in GOTG Vol.3. He was created by Ayesha, who sends him to destroy the Guardians as an act of revenge.

The High Evolutionary, who created Ayesha, removes Warlock from his cocoon too early, which is why he struggles to comprehend what’s going on around him, much like a child.

Warlock joins the good side after the Guardians save him and Drax tells him that everyone deserves a second chance. Warlock then redeems himself by saving Star-Lord. Now, he lives on Knowhere, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be leaving anytime soon.

Adam Warlock brings a lot to the table with abilities like superhuman strength, speed, mental powers, energy projection and much more. Warlock’s new pet, a small F’saki named Blurp, also seems to have joined the Guardians as an unofficial member.

4. Phyla-Vell

The High Evolutionary with Phyla-Vell

Phyla-Vell is the last new member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. She was one of the many children that the High Evolutionary was experimenting on. In the climax scene, the Guardians save her as well as all the other children from his laboratory.

The mid-credits scene of GOTG Vol.3 briefly teases Phyla’s powers by showing her fists glow. She is also speaking English in the scene, which she probably learnt after spending a lot of time with the Guardians.

This is all we know so far about Phyla-Vell in the MCU. In Marvel Comics, she is a Kree/Titan hybrid with a wide range of abilities and is also known for wielding the Oblivion Sword.

We don’t know if the MCU Phyla-Vell will have the same powers, but we do know that the Guardians just got a whole lot stronger with her on their side.

5. When will we see the new Guardians next?

Since the MCU has teased these new Guardians of the Galaxy, this may not be the last time that we see them in action.

It’s possible that the new Guardians of the Galaxy will make appearances in the upcoming Phase V movies that are set in space, and even the new Avengers movies that have already been announced.

But whether they’ll be getting a solo movie in the form of Volume 4 isn’t confirmed yet.

Even though we’re going to miss our original crew, it’s comforting to know that the new Guardians of the Galaxy could make a comeback in the future. Not to forget, the legendary Star-Lord has still not taken his final bow.
