Amanda Waller does not take well to ancient entities like Black Adam reawakening. If you’re familiar with her methods, you know she’ll be sending down a team to take care of him. This team is none other than the Justice Society of America!
The JSA’s appearance can mean only one thing — The film will have more superheroes than just Black Adam. Here’s who you can look forward to seeing on screen:
The new superheroes that Black Adam introduces into the DCEU are Black Adam, Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone. They will team up to take down the film’s main villain, Ishmael Gregor/Sabbac.

Superheroes
I. Black Adam
While Black Adam himself would never accept the term superhero, he’s definitely not on the villain team in the film. By now, you may be well acquainted with his character, but let me give you a refresher.
He received his powers from his son, Hurut, who was the Shazam champion chosen by the Wizard. Black Adam was put into a slumber because he was deemed unworthy of his powers. But he wakes in the present day, just in time to protect Kahndaq and its people from new troubles.
His abilities include super strength, invulnerability, super speed, wisdom, lightning powers, and courage, all granted to him by a plethora of Egyptian gods.
II. Hawkman
Carter Hall made his first appearance in Flash Comics #1, as an archeologist. But it is later revealed that he is the human reincarnation of Prince Khufu. His flying abilities are all thanks to an anti-gravity element called Nth Metal.
(He also has the ability to reincarnate but the film doesn’t really touch upon that.)
He is one of the founding members of the JSA, and with his Egyptian background, it makes sense why the character was chosen to be in a Black Adam movie. Can I also say his suit is simply stunning?
III. Doctor Fate
Doctor Fate is another character who has Egyptian roots. Often labeled as “DC’s Doctor Strange,” he wields a magical amulet, cloak, and the Helm of Fate bestowed by the wizard Nubu the Wise.
Fate has a range of powers: flying, teleportation, astral projection, fire energy bolts, illusions, telepathy, telekinesis, and pyrokinesis. There are even times when he can time travel and create portals to other dimensions.
(Yup, he’s similar to Doctor Strange in most things other than personality.)
IV. Atom Smasher
Back in his early comic book days, Atom Smasher was known by the name Nuklon and sported a red mohawk—quite different from his film image. As depicted on screen, he can change the size of his body at will.
He is the grandson of the villain, Cyclotron, from whom he also got his powers. Despite his family background, Atom Smasher has always been on the side of good.
Atom Smasher and Black Adam have quite a major arc in the comics, a great friendship that later turns sour. It is left to see if this will be adapted for the screen.
V. Cyclone
Quintessa Swindell/Cyclone is one of the younger members of the JSA. She was recruited when her superhero powers went viral online. But what was an even bigger reveal is that she’s the granddaughter of Red Tornado, a former JSA member.
As her moniker suggests, she can manipulate the wind around her to create tornadoes and hurricanes. But it’s not all brawn here, as she’s also super smart with an IQ of 167.
Villians
I. Ishmael Gregor/Sabbac – Intergang
Our first encounter with the film’s bad guys happens at the dig site when Tomaz and the team are attacked by Intergang. While we don’t get too deep into Intergang’s origins, we find out that they’re here to steal the powerful Crown of Sabbac.
Tomaz is then betrayed by her own colleague, Ishmael, who happens to be Intergang’s leader. What are his true intentions, you ask? Well, he is the last descendant of King Anh-Kot and wants the crown so he can take over as Kahndaq’s “rightful” ruler.
By tricking Black Adam into killing him, Ishmael is able to reincarnate as Sabbac, the movie’s main villain. As per the comics, Sabbac is actually an acronym for the demons Satan, Aym, Belial, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, and Crateis.
Just as Black Adam gets his powers from the Egyptian gods, Sabbac too gets his powers from these demons. While the DCEU version isn’t exactly like the comics, it would explain why Sabbac appears so powerful in the film.
About Black Adam
Black Adam is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics fictional supervillain, directed by Jaume Collett-Serra. It is a spinoff of the 2019 movie Shazam!, and the 11th film in the DCEU franchise.
Black Adam is the antihero to Shazam and possesses the same powers as the white-caped superhero. But after being imprisoned for 5000 years, he is finally free, and now, the Justice Society of America, a team of superheroes, must stop him before he fulfills his mission to wreak havoc on the world that rejected him.
The film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam, and joining him are cast members Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Marwan Kenzari, Quintessa Swindell, Pierce Brosnan, and Viola Davis.
