Hogwarts Legacy Editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions Explained

Hogwarts Legacy is the latest game launched by Warner Bros. in the Harry Potter series. The open-world RPG is set to release in February 2023 but is available for pre-ordering now. The game comes in three special editions.

The three special editions include Standard, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s. Now, if you’ve been wondering what the difference between each of these is and what the prices are, you’ve arrived at the right place.

The Digital Deluxe and Standard Edition cost $59.99 and $69.99, based on the console for which you buy the game. The Collector’s Edition costs $289.99 or $299.99. The main difference between the three is the additional pack and memorabilia that come with them.

Before I point out the key differences between the three, here’s a quick synopsis of the game. Hogwarts Legacy is set in the 1800s in the School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.

Hogwarts Legacy

You’ll be playing as a fifth-year student learning to harness an ancient kind of magic that could potentially destroy the world of magic itself. However, there are others attempting to do the same, with motives of their own.

Who are these people? Why is this magic so significant? What does it mean for the wizarding world? All these questions and more will be answered in the Hogwarts Legacy game.

As you realize, the game is set much before the existence of Harry Potter and most of the original film/book characters. The game, while having an ancient vibe, will preserve elements important to the world. These include the school, the Dark Forest, Diagon Alley, and more.

There are also rumors that one or more of Harry Potter’s relatives could be a part of this game. Now, let’s dive into the three special editions and dissect them.

These are the broad differences between each of the Legacy Editions. To dive in a little deeper, the Dark Arts Pack would consist of a Dark Arts Cosmetic Set, Thestral Mount, Dark Arts Battle Arena, and a Dark Arts Garrison Hat.

Besides this, there’s another rumor that you could get a cross-gen upgrade, where you can play characters across generations as well. The book would be a life-size collectible that can be connected to a power source. With it, would come an intricately designed ancient wand that can float over the book.

Now, that you know everything about the Hogwarts Legacy games, let’s come to the big question. Are the games really worth buying? If so, which one should you go for?

To begin with, there have been quite a few responses to the various editions. While the fans are excited about the new game in the Potterverse, they still believe that $300 is too steep for additional memorabilia or collectibles.

So, if you’re a hardcore Potterhead and absolutely want the map book with the floating wand, you can go with the Collector’s Edition. However, my suggestion would be to go with the Deluxe Edition. One of the main reasons for this is that for an additional $10, you not only get an extra Pack with in-game assets but even get to play an exclusive quest.

In the past, the studio has come with numerous special editions for marquee games such as Batman: Arkham City and the more recent one, Mortal Kombat 11. Considering that Arkham City is as old as 2011, let me take MK11 as an example.

While the main game costs about $49.99, its special edition called MK11 Ultimate costs merely $10 more—bringing the total to $59.99. In this edition, there’s an entirely new arc of the story, character packs, and more customizations.

If you’re familiar with the game, you’ll know that these features are a lot for $10 and it’s definitely worth the money you’re paying. However, if we look at the Hogwarts Legacy Special Editions, there’s not much that they offer.

So, it seems like the game is built mainly for hardcore fans who’d want to invest their time, energy, and money in playing the game and diving deeper into the lore. If you want to do that, then, Deluxe Edition is the one to go with.
