Who Will Be in The King’s Man?

The Kingsman franchise has created its own genre of spy films with sleek and snazzy action sequences backed by compelling storytelling that has its share of intentional ironic and parody moments that take a dig at the spy-thriller genre.

We’ve seen two Kingsman films with Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Harry Hart (Colin Firth) in action, saving the world against the big bad villains who pose a global threat. Is it just me, or are you, too reliving those two fighting in jet-black suits? After all, they never let go of their gentlemanly way of life. Remember “Manners maketh man.”

The next film to enter this world is not Kingsman 3, but an origin story of The Kingsman Secret Service, called The King’s Man.

Set in the 1900s before World War I, the film depicts how an emerging threat to the world had to be stopped. This mission and the people behind it led to the rise of what we know as The Kingsman.

The trailer was studded with some of the biggest stars and some important historical figures. So who all will be in The King’s Man?

The King’s Man will depict historical figures such as Grigori Rasputin, Nicholas II of Russia, Captain Morton, General Kitchener, among others. The cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Djimon Hounsou, Tom Hollander, and others in key roles.

Cast and Characters

The King’s Man has a star cast that exudes glamor and has given some terrific performances in the previous films.

Helming the film is Ralph Fiennes as the protagonist who plays the Duke of Oxford, and his team of spies includes Gemma Arterton as Polly, Djimon Hounsou as Shola, and Harris Dickinson as Conrad.

Who will be in The King’s Man?
Aaron Taylor Johnson as Lee Unwin

Besides these, Aaron Taylor Johnson is playing Lee Unwin. We don’t know much about this character or which side he’s on, but in case you don’t remember, you’ve heard this name before—it’s the name of Eggsy’s father. So perhaps we’ll get to know more about Eggsy’s bloodline in the film.

Now onto some of the historical figures, we will see in the movie. Rhys Ifans will step into the shoes of Grigori Rasputin, who looks more animated than scary in the trailer. I know the irony about the myths around him is hard to miss.

We will also see Tom Hollander as George V, Wilhelm II, and Nicholas II (Triple role alert!) Matthew Goode as Captain Morton aka The Shepherd, Charles Dance as Herbert Kitchener aka General Kitchener, and perhaps more figures. Maybe before you catch this film, it will be nice to get a little history lesson on these characters to enjoy their satirical versions.

But hold on, we’re not done yet, and you will be glad. It is rumored that the actual main villain might not even be Rasputin but someone else operating from the shadows, which will flip the story upside down. I think it’s the classic Kingsman trope we’ve seen in the previous two films that have given rise to some iconic villains.

Since this movie takes place in the 1900s, The King’s Man most probably will not feature any of the previous films’ characters. However, there’s a good chance that we might find Easter eggs and connections between the characters of the two eras.

How Will the Film Connect with the Modern-day Kingsman?

Though nothing has been explicitly revealed, director Matthew Vaughn said that this would tie in with the next Kingsman film, which will take place in the current era.

The King’s Man

Like most other recent films, The King’s Man has had multiple delays due to the pandemic but is now set to release on December 22, 2021. The box office numbers for other films indicate the audience’s willingness to return to the theatres. This means that it is highly unlikely for the film to get pushed further.

Now, I can’t wait for Christmas this year because it legit has a lot of red (action & blood) that goes with my taste!
