An Easy Guide to Locate Dozmare the Griffin in Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16 has a lot of side quests that involve hunting down beasts. They’re known as Notorious Marks, and they need to be defeated using different strategies. They’re featured on Nektar the Moogle’s Hunt Board, and the more you progress through the game, more hunts appear.

The Griffin, Dozmare, is one of these beasts that you’ll have to hunt when doing the Blacksmith Blues side quest. Finding it can be tricky since the game doesn’t offer many clues as to where it’s located, so you might get lost. Fortunately, you’ll find the exact location of the beast mentioned below.

The Griffin, Dozmare, is located south of Norvent Valley in the region of Sanbreque. To find it, fast travel to the Lostwing Obelisk. Then head southeast through the Norvent Valley towards Caer Norvent River Gate, and you’ll notice the Griffin on the castle wall.

To get the Griffin Hunt, simply initiate the Blacksmith Blues side quest in the Hideaway and then speak to Nektar the Moogle. Choose the dialogue option “ask about Griffin sightings” to unlock the hunt.

The quest is about cheering up the blacksmith, Blackthorne. The reason he’s upset is because he refused to ask about a piece of leatherwork that he liked, a decision that he later regretted.

You’ll need to track down the leatherworker to gain his knowledge to cheer up Blackthorne, but you’ll learn that the leatherworker was looking for a Griffin and that’s where the hunt for Dozmare begins.

The best way to defeat Dozmare is by observing its attacks and timing your moves accordingly. It has a range of close-claw attacks and ranged attacks that you can either block or parry.

Timing your moves is key to defeating the beast. Dozmare is a Rank B enemy, which means that the fight won’t be easy, so use all that you’ve got. Unleash your Eikon abilities whenever it’s staggered or vulnerable to attacks, and you’ll slay the beast in no time.

Here are some tips for defeating Dozmare:

  • Dozmare has multiple lunge and pounce attacks and dodging them will give you a large window. Be sure to unleash all your powerful abilities and attacks during that time.
  • When the Griffin is vulnerable and susceptible to attacks, use all your Eikon abilities to stagger it.
  • Dozmare will sometimes stand in place and then spit out a projectile. Since it doesn’t have auto-aim, you can easily dodge the projectile and get a few hits in.
  • Dozmare has a very powerful move where it rises up in the air and dives towards you. Upon hitting the ground, it’ll send out a green shockwave of magical energy, which can be dodged, but it can be difficult, so you might end up taking some damage.
