Will Stars Align ever be completed? Season 2 Update

Many brilliant anime face the blight of being neglected after the first season. Stars Align is one such anime whose sequel is an unforgettable need for otakus.

Kazuki Akane, the director of Stars Align, took the difficult decision to air the anime without making it unnecessarily short. However, he has been plagued by the results ever since.

Stars Align is undoubtedly one of the gems of the anime industry. It begins as a sports anime but then slowly delves deeper into children’s psyches and unravels their trauma.

Unfortunately, news regarding its sequel is still obscure. Thus, this article will answer all your queries regarding the missing second season of Stars Align.

Why was Stars Align Season 2 canceled?

Stars Align was originally planned to have 24 episodes. Episode 12 of the anime also attests to the fact that the series is supposed to have a second season. The second cour was supposed to air after a three-month break.

In the spring of 2019, there was a last-minute change in schedule, forcing Kazuki Akane, the director, to make Stars Align 12 episodes long instead of 24 episodes. Akane has reported that the show was already under production for over two years, and the animation production was already underway.

At that point, he deemed it impossible to condense the anime into a 12-episode frame. Thus, the structure was kept intact, but the funding for a second season was never officiated.

There are many voices, mainly from overseas, who want a sequel to “Hoshiai no Sora”, which makes me very happy. Thank you very much. Unfortunately, there is still no prospect of restarting animation production, but I am currently writing a revised draft of the sequel scenario. For the past two years, my physical condition has not been good, so the work has not progressed well.

In the director’s latest tweet, he confessed that he still does not foresee a new production for Stars Align. Kazuki Akane’s health has also deteriorated in the past two years, which has affected the story’s progress. The anime might not get completed unless Akane gets proper funding and staff to help him.

When will episode 13 of Stars Align be released?

Kazuki Akane has recently tweeted that he is considering releasing a revision plot for episode 1 in its current raw state online in Japanese. He concluded machine translation made it lose its nuance. We can hope for the raws to release late this year or early 2024.

The director further informed that a lot of support regarding Stars Align has landed from overseas fans, and he never wants to give up on this series.
