Director Reveals Potential Plot Point For Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2

First things first, director Jason Reitman has confirmed that Ghostbusters II is canon. The 1989 movie ties into the newly released Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which might be getting a sequel.

In a bizarre yet insightful interview with Uproxx’s Mike Ryan, Reitman revealed that he has already thought about potential storylines.

One of the stories that a probable Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 might focus on is the repainting of the classic Ghostbusters logo on Ecto-1 vehicle– a detail only ardent fans would have noticed.

Mike Ryan asked about the director’s decision to go from a two-finger up ghost to the original one-finger up. Reitman then replied the answers to that might be revealed in the potential sequel.

I wish I could talk to you about that. Well, I’m just saying that’s a plot that is not in this film and we have ideas moving forward.

Reitman even talked about the better-forgotten Ghostbusters II. While many try to imagine the world without it, he shares that it does connect to the new movie, which opened to $44 million on the weekend (something Ghostbusters II could never) and is definitely canon.

There are references to Ghostbusters II in Afterlife. We meet Ray working at Ray’s Occult. The toaster from Ghostbusters II is in the kitchen in the farmhouse. There’s actually lots of lots of Ghostbusters II details but nobody knows Ghostbusters II outside of Vigo the Carpathian and the Ghostbusters II logo. So there’s this assumption that it is not canon but it is definitely canon. (sic)

While there is no official news of a Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2, the strong box office numbers suggest that there might eventually be one.
