Common sense is a rarity today, especially if you are a character in The Mosquito Coast. Apple’s take on the Paul Theroux novel of the same name is, in a word, disappointing.
It follows Allie Fox (Justin Theroux), an eccentric inventor on the run with his family who settles in Mexico after crossing the border. His reasons for doing so are unbelievably complicated and somewhat silly.
Episode 7 explores the emotional states of various characters in the show. Allie and Margot still struggle to sort out their issues, while Guillermo plans to use Allie’s algorithm to smuggle cocaine. The last three episodes might have some unexpected character deaths in store.

Season 2, Episode 8 Synopsis/Speculation
In this week’s episode, the feud between Margot and Allie takes a turn for the worst. Allie is happy with the volatile way of living, while Margot wants stability for her children (who wouldn’t?).
I feel that the eventual episodes will only magnify their fights and it will lead to a sticky end. Will Margot end up killing Allie? Or will Allie make things worse for his children by killing Margot?
In episode 7, Casa Roja burns an effigy of Judas. We see the emotional termoil that Charlie is going through in that scene. Is Charlie expecting that this would make his guilt disappear? I strongly think that it would not be the case, given that Margot is still spending time with Richard.
Talking about Margot and Richard, things are reaching a point of compromise between the two. Margot seems to be using Richard for her selfish needs, but to what end? She seems hell-bent on striking a deal with the US government.
Meanwhile, Guillermo is intent on using the new algorithm of Allie to track police patterns so that he can smuggle cocaine with ease. This can have disastrous effects if the police get a hint of their actions.
I dread to think what would happen if the police tracks their location and Allie’s eccentricity starts peaking again.
In this week’s episode, Allie finally uncovers the Mosquito Coast file. I am sure he likes the place and would want to make it the next destination for his family. Now, will Margot allow that? Stay tuned next week to get the answers to all these questions!

The Mosquito Coast Season 2, Episode 7 Recap
This week’s episode was another bullock-cart ride with little to look forward to.
The Easter activities start with Casa Roja burning the effigy of Judas. Elsewhere, Guillermo’s sister, Andrea, assists with the project that Allie and William were sent to sabotage.
We also realize that Isela and Richard are also there to stop it.
Guillermo talks to Allie about using his algorithm to track police activities so that he can transport cocaine safely. Allie seems hesitant to part with his algorithm.
Allie insists on working with Sandpiper rather than giving Guillermo the algorithm. While running the code and inputting data, he discovers the Mosquito Coast files.
About The Mosquito Coast
The Mosquito Coast is an American drama television series developed by Neil Cross and Tom Bissell based on the novel of the same name by Paul Theroux published in 1981.
It is also loosely adapted from the 1986 film which starred Harrison Ford. The series stars Justin Theroux, nephew of Paul, and Melissa George in lead roles, with Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman rounding out the main cast. Justin Theroux also serves as executive producer, along with Rupert Wyatt, who directed the first two episodes.
The first season consists of seven episodes, premiered on Apple TV+ on April 30, 2021, and concluded on June 4, 2021. In June 2021, the series was renewed for a second season consisting of ten episodes. The second season premiered on November 4, 2022.
