Animated Star Wars shows always start on a light-hearted note but tend to become darker with time. This has been the case with shows like The Siege of Mandalore and The Clone Wars.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2 started on a similar note, but we are finally at a juncture where things have started to look very dark.
Episodes 7 and 8 will come together next week, and many fans dub them the mid-season finale. We will see a concoction of nasty conspiracies and the return of Captain Rex who will lead the clones in their struggle for freedom for the first time after Order 66!
Also, Wookiees are back, and the franchise is always better when they are around!
Season 2, Episode 7 & 8 Synopsis/Speculation
After several weeks of episodes with one-word titles, Lucasfilm finally drops a title that carries some weight!
Next week’s episode is named ‘The Clone Conspiracy’, and it will release along with episode 8 (Truth and Consequences) to form a mid-season finale.
Until now, almost all episodes of Bad Batch season 2 have been stand-alone with virtually no effect on the grand scheme of things, but next week’s episodes will be different. As the name suggests, there is a conspiracy, and I have some theories about it.
We haven’t seen Rex in season 2 yet. He was in the trailer for the season, and I feel he will make his first appearance next week.
The conspiracy against the Empire will not only come from the Bad Batch, Commander Cody, or Hauser, but it will also originate from a large group of clones in the empire. This will be the first time we see a large-scale conspiracy against the Empire at a time when they can’t afford it.
I want to see the entire build-up in episode 7, and we may see the consequences of it in episode 8. Now, the real question is, which side will Crosshair be on?
Crosshair will almost be a double agent for Rampart against the clones. He has already chosen his side and will be the main antagonist who gives away critical intel about the clones to Rampart.
He will ultimately die on the hill, but that won’t be until the very end of the season. He will surely have a slight redemption arc, but that will come too late.
I would love to see Rex work in tandem with Cody again and conspire against the Empire for the first time after Order 66.
This season will be about the real purpose of the clones in the galaxy, and the next two episodes will start the real deal in season 2!
