The Role of Apex Industries in the Monarch Season 1 Finale Explained

The Monarch: Legacy of Monsters finale has several major twists, including a surprising ally who comes to help our protagonists. The series wrapped up its first season with an exciting face-off between Godzilla and Ion Dragon, while Kong made a special appearance.

The finale picks up the story from episode 9, which ends with the confirmation that Keiko Randa is alive. When Keiko fell through the entrance of the Hollow Earth in 1959, everyone assumed she died.

However, the ending of episode 9 features a glimpse of her, confirming that she landed safely in the underground world. To rescue Keiko and the others, Hiroshi turns to an unlikely ally for help in episode 10.

The team is helped by none other than Apex Industries, who were the bad guys in the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong. Apex’s role in Monarch raises several questions, including the nature of their true intentions.

1. What are Apex Industries in the MonsterVerse?

Apex Industries is one of the main antagonists in the MonsterVerse and a rival to Monarch. It is a cybernetics company that aims to exploit and destroy the Titans for their own benefit. Apex Industries represents human arrogance and greed that threatens the balance of nature and the coexistence of humans and Titans.

Apex Industries was first introduced in the 2021 Monsterverse film Godzilla vs. Kong, where they were revealed to be the creators of Mechagodzilla, a robotic replica of Godzilla designed to exterminate all Titans. Apex Industries also had a secret base on Skull Island, where they harvested Skullcrawler eggs for their experiments.

Apex Industries was not a part of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters until the finale. In the finale, they unexpectedly come to the rescue of Monarch members trapped in the underground world.

2. What is the role of Apex Industries in the Monarch finale?

Apex Industries rescues the Monarch members from the underground role when Monarch refuses to send help with the help of Hiroshi’s research. However, Apex’s motives behind helping Monarch members are questionable.

In the Monarch finale, May, Shaw, Keiko, and Cate try to return to the surface after being trapped at Axis Mundi, expected to be the bridge between the surface and Hollow Earth. Tim and Kentaro continue to believe they are still alive and turn to Monarch for help.

However, Monarch refuses to help them. Therefore, Tim reminds Hiroshi that Monarch wasn’t the “only game in town.” They are compelled to turn to Apex for help, who come to their aid, owing to their own selfish interests.

3. Why did Apex Industries help Monarch members in the finale?

Apex Industries helps the Monarch members as they have much to gain from their experiences while living underground. They want to learn more about the nervous systems of the Titans with the help of Monarch’s research.

Brenda Holland, the head of Apex, makes it clear that their main motive behind helping Hiroshi is to use their research about the Titans. As we know, the research will be helpful in the creation of Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong.

The members’ research can further help Apex and provide more insight into the world of the Titans. It is also hinted that Apex Industries has made a deal with Monarch to access the Hollow Earth and advance their research on the Titans in exchange for helping the members.

Monarch season 2 will give us more insight into Apex’s true motives and how they became one of the antagonists in the Monsterverse.
